"DIY MODS" and TRICKS to SAVE $$$$$$
One of the disadvantages of my bike is that the radio does not have CD capability and definitely nothing like Bluetooth. I have added a Motorola T500 BT to both of my cars. t is a nice unit and is capable of either speaker to transmitting to the stereo. I have been very pleased with it since mye iPhone and iPod has no difficulty pairing and playing music or the phone. If there is a drawback to the T500 it is that it sends such a strong signal that, when I forget to turn it off, will atay paired even 100 feet away or when I am in the house. With that experience, I decided to try to add that capability to my new (to me) bike.
I bought a refurbished unit from eBay last week for 25 bucks including shipping. The unit came with a car charger but no mounting hardware. The mount slides into a pair of slots on the top of the unit, so I made my own bracket with a piece of siding aluminum.
I bent the aluminum over the edge of a metal table with a wooden mallet and trimmed the edges that slide into the slots with a bit of a scallop so that it would slide in and out yet be secure. I mounted it with 3M double sided tape intended for securing molding on a car inside the right compartment on the fairing, but could have just as easily mounted it to any surface (or even left it loose in the saddlebags)
Since I have a cigar lighter. it will be easy to plug it in to charge but that is not a big problem because the battery on these things lasts for a week or more and I can always slip it off and charge it in the house or use a backup battery.
The T500 allows selection of multiple FM frequencies and works great on Ace. The added advantage is that if I have it on, anyone within 50-100 feet who knows the pairing code can listen in to music with me.
Needed:
--Motorola T501 (Search on eBay); MOTOROLA T501 BLUETOOTH IN CAR KIT SPEAKER PHONE
--2" X 3" piece of aluminum sheeting
--3M mounting tape
--alcohol to clean mounting surface
--Pliers/hammer and a flat edge for bending

I've done it so long ago that I'm not sure if this is part number. It was the 3/8 chrome door trim in the 20 foot roll. I see they have a 10 ft roll which will cover all the lips on an Ultra with some to spare. I did two bikes with 20 ft.

Cut the yard stick to length 2 times and drill the bolt holes. The screw glue staple or otherwise attach the top of 1 nail pouch to the top piece and the bottom of 1 nail pouch to the bottom piece and attatch. Then just sew or have your other half sew (if your to manly to sew)The 2 pouches together in the middle and the sides. As you can see mine are just pinned for now. Im thinking about sewing the pockets in half so I will have 8 nice deep pockets. I also got a pack of the metal collars to go under the bolt heads so they dont dig to far into the yardstick.

Total cost $3.77 and about 45 minutes plus the sewing. It could always be dyed to blend in better or you could buy material and sew it all from scratch but at 77 cents apiece the nail pouches are fine.
Good Luck and Be Safe!
