Default Performance Ideas

I have a 98 Fuel Injected FLHT. Looking for the best bang for the buck performance upgrade. It has SE Slip On's but nothing else. I would assume a stage 1 kit would be the first place to start but any ideas on something else or what type, etc would be appreciated.

Definitely go with the hi flow filter, then look at head work and cams.

Sean,

First, go to the new members section and introduce yourself so everyone will know you are here.

Now for the bike. The pipes you have will do. You need the Stage 1 Air Cleaner and a Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner (SERT) for tuning purposes. Make sure your dealer has a good dyno tech and have it dyno'd and tweaked to take advantage of every bit of hp and torque.

If you want to spend a little more money then have the heads done and put in a decent cam. Then you will really scream.

First

Decide how much you want to spend. Second, your budget will decide which item is the next step to do. Just remember to look at big picture even if you can't do all mods now. Buy parts that will be compatable with future mods. Air cleaner would be good next move and perhaps after that Andrews 26 gear drive cam. Cam will work with most future mods and you will really feel difference. And gear drive will make more maintenence free.

My riding buddy has an 1998 E glide classic efi that he is having upgraded right now. He is spending about 3,500 on the top end of the motor. The evo motor is really under powered on a 98 glide. He is going with SE heads, bore the jugs .0030, cams with a 560 lift, new lifters, push rods and roller rockers, 10:1 pistons, SERT and dyno tuning. Seems that this build is still very stable for daily riding and not radical. It should be done today, I'm really interested to see the results he gets with this build. He wants to go faster than my Street Glide and he may very well do it.

John

Thanks for the information guys and I did take your advice and posted some info the New Members Area. Also forgot to mention that I am fairly handy around a tool box so the, Stage1 kit for example, I could and would like to do myself. Does this have an impact on a SERT vs something along the line of a PC III? Does the SERT have maps that I can use myself? Or do I just do the install and bring it to Harley and have them do the recalibration without a SERT? Have certainly seen some very strong opinions on this If shop recommended for tuning, ideas on one in Seattle / Eastside area?
