Think dude, when a bank needs capital, what do they do? they run promo rates for a short time to run up deposit base.
When Harley wants to sell more bikes, what do they do? they run a special Anniversary promo rate.
so here it is for those of you who don't get it.
5 yr loan with Harley.
$24k @ special 1.9 apr
total interest paid at the end of 5 years with no extra or early payments = $1,177.03
CD at Bank of Ron
$24,000.00 5 years @ 5.5% APY
Interest earned 1st yr = $1,320.00
yr 2 = $1,392.00
yr 3 = $1,469.19
yr4 = $1549.00
yr 5 = $1635.24
Total earned = $7,366.43
That means I made $6,189.40 by using harley's money and keeping mine
If you can not understand that, well than I give up!

Your almost right, two problems... one I can not refund/waive for my self(and I would feel like a cheapskate if I ask my co-worker to refund/waive it), and two, The acct used to send the check is my secret mad cashacct at a different bank(i don't work for them and my big balances are not there)so no one(wife) sees it or what is in it...
Do not get the wrong idea, if she knew it was there, it would be spent...

I am really not trying to fuel the rant here...but I do have a question/comment.
I would ALSO be mad at my bank as well. Cause, if youhave my enough money in a bank to earn 5.5% interest...that is good interest at today's rate. I would expect them to cancel my check at "no charge". Especially if it was a bank I worked at.
I know (personally) banks do waive fee's for customers who have enough money in the bank to have (or use)a private or personal banker when going to the bank.
Just a comment.....

Why not ask the co-worker -where you work, I would call it a PERK!
again, not trying to fuel the fire...just reading your notes, and making comments!
If you set up the auto payments , they are free but to make a one time online or phone payment they do charge an outrageous fee.I just wish there was a way to check your account online, if there is I have not found it yet and Dude I understand why you did what you did, I draw more interest by financing mine than by paying cash and then if an big emergency comes up I am not strapped.May not be good economics to some of you smarter guys but makes sense to a dum ole working class countryboy

If it were the same bank, you would have a point. They do not pay it out when they are not taking it in.

I paid cash for my Bike. I aint no fancy banker, I just saved up for it and bought it. My gold-wing was paid cash for as well. I agree if you can't afford it dont buyit. As far as hiding money from my wife that dont sound like a great or even a good relationship. I dont and would not dream of "hiding" money from my wife. I am also one of those people who are 2 months ahead on their car payment. It is due on the 1st. I mail it on the 15 the month prior with 10% added on top of the required payment. Good luck with it.

I should have been a Banker.
