My bro. and I are planning a trip to michigan this May, second week. Leaving from Shenandoah vally in Virginia. He has never seen any of the great lakes and wants to before he keels over, anyhow, I was wondering if there are any good places to stay while there? I'm Looking around South Haven, however, anyplace either on or real close to one of the "lakes" will do. Other suggestions would be appreciated too, like weather at that time of year, how people are with bikers, how the law sees bikers, helmet law, things to look for and look out for, ect. Thanks in advance for all your input.
I dont wanna rain on your parade,, but they get same type weather here,,,,,
very cold nights, cool days, rainy,,, ya might get lucky,,, but dont say I didnt warn ya.
good luck!
Great lakes would be better July /Aug.
just my opinion
I live on the east side of Michigan and have traveled to the west side through South Haven a few times and it is beutiful over there.
If you go through South Haven and stay along the water and drive up towards Travers City and Charlevoix you will not be dissapointed. When you get closer to Traverse City you will really enjoy it.
Here in CHICAGO in MAY its just starting to get nice!!! Its hit or miss with weather...PERSONALY I wouldnot chance it ...It may be done snowing but the cold RAIN is a bitch..stay south and do michigan when you retire... You might think SMOKIES..tennesee...do the dragon...GOOD LUCK JAKESTER...TIM...PS...EVERYONE IN MIDWEST SEEMS TO BE KIND TO BIKERS There is always exceptions!!!!!
Lots of great riding up the west coast of MI. There is a great little senic road north of Traverse City that you have to hit. I think it starts north of Benton Harbor actually. There is a helmet law. I have put on many thousands of miles in upper and lower MI as I lived there for 30 years before moving to NC.
Weather is a crap shoot as rick says. Could be great and it could be cold and rainy for days straight.
