Default wind shield low or tall

any advantages/disadvantages to a short windshield for an ultra. My stock one is badly scratched...tried both #1 & #2 nova products with only minimal results

Just installed a fastaire 9" today. Mid 30's here today so didn't ride far enough to tell how it works but it looks good. You can't beat their prices either. I found them thanks to the advice from this forum. Thank you all!

I rode 20,000 miles with a tall shield then finally went short, best thing I ever did. I can see better in bad weather conditions.

give this guy a try... I have several of his shield... don't let the "Low" price worry you... they are the deal of the day.... and work great... best thing about them.. if they get too scratched.. pich em and buy another.... Hell, a good dinner cost more...

if you like looking through the windshield dont get a dark tinted one, theyre very hard to see through in the day in direct sun and even harder at night. i just cut mine again to be able to see over it.

I have the stock 4" that comes on the SG and love being able to look over instead of thru a winshield, BUT with me being 5'8" I'm changing mine out to the 6" which will better and still be able to see over the shield. I had a RK for a loaner when I took my bike in for the maintinence and it had the full shield and I found I hated the d*mn thing. I got more **** in my eyes (with glasses on) and found the optics to be skewed.

I will NEVER go with a tall shield or advise someone else to do it.

Let me go the other direction. I had a standard height for my Ultra. When it got too scratched, I went to the taller version. Now, I'm 6 feet tall but with short legs so very tall from waist up. With the shorter windshield, my visor was being buffeted going down the road. Switched to the taler and no problems. sheds wind and rain. MPG did drop about 1 , but who cares? In a recent monsoon, I was seeing just fine. Corider with shorty windshield wanted to keep pulling under a bridge because he could not see.

I just ordered one of these from Tulsa Industries: $135 15 1/2"

http://www.tulsaenterprises.com/wind...s.html#hdsport

I go six foot and am always splitting my view at the top of the glass on the stock 12".

They custom mount the vent - 1" off the dash or a little higher if you have those "girlie-boy purses"

I have a 6" and the stock 12", I live in the mountains and ride in 30 degrees all the time. The short lets to much air hit my face for cold weather. My buddy has a 9" and we both have put the 12" stockers on for the winter. In the summer the 6" is great for flow and deflects the bugs up enough. I'm going to get a 9" for the fall and spring season.
