Anyone got suggestions for installing headset speakers in a 3/4 helmet so they actually have some decent sound?? I remember having transistor radios that had better sound! I don't expect theatre sound but mile after mile of what I have makes me wanna snap!! Have both a Harley and J&M set,,,both sound like crap. I'm about to go to an ear bud system of some sort if I cant figure out how to improve the sound. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I purchased this set from Ebay. They are really great and can be worn with or without a helmet. The sound is great and the price is even better. I can see them being tight for a full-face helmet. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HARLE...spagenameZWDVW
Headset placement is key to getting good sound - you want to follow the instructions on placement per each manufacturer. Had a set of top-shelf headsets years back that a buddy swore were junk an' he gave to me. Installed 'em per instructions, and they sounded as advertised!!
If your J&M sound like "CRAP" then I really don't think that there is much hope in improving the sounds... J&M does have the BEST SOUNDING HEAD SETS on the market today.. Might want to get a hold of John @ J&M and see if he can help ya...
I still haven't used my headsets yet, because i can't find a way to connect them to my half helments. I was in the man cave today tryinto figure it out but gave up[:@] I did checkfleabay as TexasVet suggested and think I'll try those. Half the price and you wear them on your head not the helment. It would be real easy to yank them off if you get tired of em [8D]
I have two HD headsets and two J&M headsets I use with 3/4 helmets. The HD headsets are crackly and sound like static when either bass or treble are turned up. When I mix the headsets one HD and one J&M the system still has problems crackle crackle, static, etc. When I use one J&M or two J&Ms the crackle and static is not present. Also, the J&Ms are more adjustable and responsive with the Harmon Kardon system. If you want shorty helmets J&M sells them also.
Something I learned from my first intercom system is that you need the speakers as close to your ears as you can get them. I had an Autocom system on my Softail. They sold foam extensions that placed the speakers closer to your ears. In their instructions they even say that the sound will be crappy if the speaker is not close as possible to your ears as well as centered on your ear. I have the HD headset on my Ultra and it sounds fine. I did put extensions on my headset speakers and made sure they were centered on my ears.

Those are a major rip off. Those are computer headsets at walmart for $13, with the audio plug in soldered on. That guy is making a killing at $80 a pop when it takes all of $15 to make a set.
Thanks for the responses,,,think I'll call J&M and ask them about it since I'm really disappointed. Maybe I'm expecting too much but there is barely any low frequency sound no matter how I install them or how close they are to my ear. Maybe I'm going tone deaf!!
