I have ridden for many years and miles and have trained and practiced with hard braking... Sometimes when its right in front of you and the Sh-- hits the fan I have still locked up the brakes. You will have to develop a different braking technique with ABS. For example you wont be feathering the brakes in a panic stop...My next bike will have ABS...
Are you taking advantage of the Military discount and that is why you are waiting so long? I was in my dealer the other day and they had a couple of ABS Ultras on the floor with no buyers. I think that will go away as soon as spring gets here.
The blue and black color you picked makes for a very nice looking Harley, you will enjoy it. I have ridden for years and I can tell you,ABS is worth the wait. ABSis a great improvement over the stock brakes and regardless of how good a rider you are it is the way to go. Good luck with the blue and black, ABS Ultra. BRO
I didn't think I needed ABS brakes until I rode in the rain on Tuesday night and couldn't see the huge painted turn arrow in my lane. While thinking I was applying proper braking technique for the conditions, using the rear brake only, I found the rear wheel locking up and the bike begin skidding to the right. Immediately releasing the brake and then applying it after the bike straightened, I was able to be in control again. I went back to that intersection the next day and found the painted turn arrow.I have always known that these painted surfacesare tobe avoided when wet, butthat rainynight, Icouldn't see it. It proved to me that I sure could have used the ABS system for this kind of situation. Experience helped me over come the skid, but it sure gave me a wake up call and could have turned into a bad night. My 2007 didn't have ABS as an option. If I was to purchase a new bike now, I would without question, pay the extra cost for ABS for those rainy rides.
yes, im using the military discount, hence the long wait. cant simply have a local dealer trade with another dealer. I'm saving about 3k off MSRP, so its worth the wait, and here in Cali its almost year long riding weather so i doubt dealers will touch a discount like that.
I too am in the process of buying an 08 Ultra through the Exchange New Car Sales offered to overseas military personnel. Iexpect statesidedelivery about24 April. I specifically asked that my bike come with ABS but when I recieved the buyers offer I seen no reference to ABS.
I calledtheir home office in NY about this and they are trying to correct. I hope it does not delay delivery.
You can't beat the discounted price they offer.
Question, my wife is deploying in October and I want to order a 2008 Ultra Classic through military sales. What is the approximate base price on a Ultra Classic through military sales. Thanx a million for the response.
