My backrest adjuster doesn't interfere with the heat deflectors. The adjuster is hidden behind the one on the left. Unfortunately I just bought the bike and don't know yet what brand the heat deflectors are.
Heat shields???? I'm sorry, I guess I installed my back rest on the back.... not the front. As with the others who mentioned it.... I wouldn't try installing without a good set of tools. Check out the instructions on line. There are several threads posted on this forum that will help. Best of luck brother.
I think you misunderstood:
quoting me again: [FYI: I have been told that the adjustable back rest will not work if you have the heat shields. end quote] A friend who has the HD shields and a non-adjustable back rest told me this. As they say, he has been there and done that.
quoting Stonerglide: (why I said what I said)
[Only the Kury and HD heat shields are an issue for only the adjustable riders backrest. This is due to the adjustment lever and the left side heat shield using the same existing hole in the frame to mount to. I suppose it could be worked around but there was no issue with my RJ's originals on my '07 Ultra. ]
I did mine in about a hour. The main mount took all of 10 minutes after the seat was off. The hard part was the release bracket. I kept dropping the mounting nut. Had to us so 12 inch forcepes. Worth every penny and secone I put into it.

The forceps sound like a cool tool to keep in kit. I'll have to get me a pair. BTW, have you got any links to the instruction manual for that backrest?
