I won't pretend to know any of the reasons why gas prices are so high. There seems to be so many of them, and they all probably have something to do with it.
All I know is that just a few hours ago, I paid $3.75 a gallon for diesel here is So. Cal. I have a 2006 F-250 and gas is really starting to put a dent in my wallet. That price is the cheapest I could find around my town. The average (for diesel) is about $3.85. $4.00 a gallon is right around the corner!!
China is going to take up any slack we might create and then some. Both China and India are emerging nations that are VERY energy hungry, and it only going to get worse.
I wish we could be like Brazil and make all of our own fuel from Sugar Cane.
I drive a 3 series BMW now, but I would really like to buy a truck. I'm a little nervous doing this, because it wouldn't surprise me if gas hit $5.00 a gallon in the next year.
supreme unleaded here is only about $3 right now. I'm sure it's higher at other stations, but not nearly as high as it was.
I think the government wants the cost high enough to make lots of money and to keep control a little better on movement, but that's probably just some foolish conspiracy theory.
Cheer up guys, in the Netherlands
we pay $ 8,50 for a gallon
It's plain robbery !!
Damn don't you relize it's your prez and his pops with the rest of the Ladens
Now here is a constructive comment to this conversation.
Maybe it's sarcasm and I'm missing it. People should do a little simple research about a subject and make intelligent comments. Some of these simple victim status like comments or blaming some 1 person just seem dumb. As sublime_ac said this is a very complex issue that has been going on for a very long time and will not be solved easily. Taking the politically easy way out and blaming 1 person or the industry that provides the service will accomplish nothing. It might make you feel good spouting these totally irrelevant statement about the issue but it contributes nothing to a constructive discussion on a serious subject.
This like any good or service is provided by companies who risk the investment to provide these goods and services. Somebody has to take that risk and investors expect results. It's easy to say some oil companies profited some x billion of dollars but nobody says how much they had to invest to get that profit. What are their profit margins? Did they meet investor expectations? Hell these companies are huge. I have no idea. But why should they be punished for profiting on a good that is in such demand? I don't like high gas prices either but some of the mindless factless banter going on here is just stupid.
Sometimes I think how nice it would be to see some of these industries that get demagogued constantly and criticized for making profits close shop and just quit supplying the service. Now that would be something to see.
And some want government to regulate gas prices. They already tax the hell out of this commodity and would tack on even more if they think they could get away with it.
There is something terribly wrong in politics today. It seems more like a blood sport. There are some serious issues that face America and if people and politicians don't get serious about them they will never get solved.
THose who want the government to regulate industry obviously weren't around for the Jimmy Carter years. When he tried to regulate the fuel industry, it accomplished nothing except causing higher prices and shortages. I remember the lines at the gas stations back in the '70's. This is something that will be corrected by a free market. Intrusion by the government will result in the same outcome we have hadfrom every other inefficient and dysfuntional government agency. Capitalism works as long as we don't give it away to the socialists in this country!
Amazing, We put an Oil Baron and a Crooked businessman in office who gives (No-Bid) contracts to his old company when he was still getting Profit payments to after he left ,we took over the second largest oil producing nation in the world. The price of Gas goes sky high! Eight years ago we were hunting a Moslum named Osama, Now we are electing a moslum named Obama. I wonder what is going sky high next?
