In Europe, gas prices are far higher than in America because taxes on gas are much higher. For example, gas prices in England have risen as high as $6.65 per gallon, with 78 percent of that going to taxes.
Dang, my mother in law said they are going to drill for oil on her land (we live on 80 acres outside of Tulsa on the family compound). I can probably figure a way to tap into that sucker but, does anyone know how I can refine that stuff into premium gasoline, cheaply.
Some of you guys must be smokin' crack. Last time I checked, this was the greatest republic and most free country on earth. We have the privilige and right to drive what we choose. I certainly don't want some ahole congressman telling me what I have to drive. That being said, anyone ever taken an economics class? As long as demand is high prices will stay high. In a free market economy, why is big oil getting the bad rap? They make more money, they hire more people. If it wasn't for the sandal wearing tree huggers, we'd be building refineries, drilling the Gulf and drilling ANWR. We haven't builta refinery in this country for almost 40 years. Here's a novel idea- drill for everything we're worth domestically and tell OPEC and the Saudis to **** off. Let those little hell hole countries collapse and then go in and take their oil. I don't know why we're not pumping Iraq for payback.
Ethanol is a joke. Our government is wasting billions of dollars on crappy bio-technology that doesn't work. There is not a single positive aspect of ethanol production and it is driving up the price of food. So, you wanna drivefor $5.00/gallon or pay a double food bill?
I drive an SUV because I can and I like it. I'm 6'4" and weigh 230lbs...a Prius doesn't fit me very well. Gas will have to get to 6 or 8 dollars a gallon before people really start looking for alternatives. In the mean time, don't blame a profit oriented company for wanting to make money- that's why they're in business. Blame our worthless politicians for not looking out for our best interests.

The oil companies are publicly traded entities as well. They have a responsibility to their shareholders to make a profit. Hugo Chavez federalizaed the oil business in Venezuela (sp?) to take profit from the corporations so he could put more people on the government programs to ensure he gets re-elected... If that's what you want for this country, keep voting for democrats, socialism is the direction they are heading...
A free market will decide when it has had enough. When the price of gas becomes too much of a burden other fuels will become practical. It will force us to look for alternatives. BIO fuels suck, they aren't efficient. Hydrogen is the BEST fuel source we have. If we can find a way to efficiently produce it and store it in motor vehicles for use we will be rocking. The only way I see this happening is to allow Nuke plants to be built to generate the power required to convert water to hydrogen. Then we could have hydrogen fueling stations that convert it on premises using electricity. It is possible to get off of Dyno fuels, we just have to want it bad enough.
Rock, not to hijack the thread, but why would you work for someone that FORBIDS you from investing where you want? My employer PAYS me for work I provide, does not tell me where to SPEND my money!!

That's the problem Alan, everyone wants it, but the politicians can't stop bickering over who's in control. I to am a republican and can't stand liberal tree huggers and my comment about the government helping wasn't meant to bea liberal statement, it was an irate statement because as I stated above, Dammit Enough is Enough.
I work for the state and it seems every time we get a little extra incentive in our pay checks either fuel goes up or the price of our health insurance goes up and we're right back where we were. I'm sorry for ranting and I'm not taking it out on you, becauseI agree with ya, I suppose like the old cliche' goes "I want my cake and eat it too", thanks for yours and everyone'sinput ... "D"
