Btw, nice bike Boom, nice ocean. Used to live on CA coast myself--kind ofmiss it. That's a cool thing about riding--can visit those places you love, even if the price of gas creeps up a bit. You and JD be safe...

That is why I still have my suzuki sl650, 60 mpg cruising speed 65mpg
Many things will change very soon, and most likely you will not like them. Look at how many homes are being repossessed-spelling-. Honda will not make motorcyles in 2009 only cars

I don't know how it is where ya'll live, but the price of gas and diesel is higher than a giraffe's a$$ down here!!! I have a Ford F-250 Diesel and the cheapest fuel I've found is $3.49 per gallon and I've seen it as high as $3.70 per gallon!!! Heck, I can't afford to drive the damn thing now!!! As far asgasoline, it's already above $3.00 per gallon for regular unleaded and they say it'll be over $4.00 per gallon by the summer!!!
I've seen on T.V. that some of you are paying even more than what we're paying and I can't see how. The federal government says there's nothing they can do about it, well I say Bull S&%t!!! If they would impose an embargo on foreign oil and start using our own, it wouldn't take those third world countries long to buckle when their oil isn't selling anymore.
I'm sorry for ranting, but it seems every time we turn around fuel is going up and when it does so does everything else and our pay seems to stay the same!!! Hopefully someone here is in politics or has connections and can pass this rant along and if ya'll agree give this a bump and let them know how you feel about these outrageous prices we're paying for fuel!!!

Oil is a limited resource, and with the booming development in China and India, cheap gas will be just a memory in a not to remote future. The sales of etanol and biogas cars are increasing more and more. I think thatthe salesof these cars are about 30% of all new cars in Sweden right now.
I think that the whorst thing to do,is topretend thatthere wount be a big change of lifestyle in the future.
Still I hope to be able to run my bike my whole life. The car I could live without.

Last spring when we had a spike in May I said enough. I sold the truck and bought a 4 banger that gets 29-30 mpg and a older big block conversion van for towing my queen and the boats. The van sits about 300 days a year and gets insured only when driving it.
If you don't need it for work or everyday driving check on getting 2 vehicles. I came out ahead with the 2 vehicles,insurance and gas with savingsof about about $45 a month. Not alot but if the cost of gas does go up that number keeps getting higher.

The problem arises in the fact that gas/diesel is not true capitalism. Look at a Big Mac...if McDonalds raises the price of a Big Mac to a point I wont pay, I will go and get a burger at Jack in the Box if they are maintaining a reasonable price for me. If no 1 is, then I make the decision to get groceries and do without the fast-food. i have no such choice when it comes to fuel...I HAVE TO HAVE FUEL to live. I can decide not to go to the lake,or 6-Flags, or whatever but I cannot not go to work because I choose not to pay this high price for fuel. And this trickles down and impacts all aspects of the economy because I didnt go and spend money at the lake, the theme park, the movie house.
We can get into arguments about we did this to ourselves but the reality is that this country is structured such that our houses are away from things (stores/work) to live the American Dream and there are no real viable alternative modes of transportation...
-a hydrid SUV that gets 21mpg instead of 18 (but it costs $5K more to buy),
-a hybrid car but I need the bed of truck,
-a battery car but my light bill is astronomical from pluggin it in,
-bio-fuel that is the same price, gets less mpg, and has driven food prices through the roof
-buy a fuel efficinet car - but what if my 5-yr old truck is paid for and now I have $300 monthly car payment so the $20-40 a week I save on gas still puts me $140-220 less in pocket a month
When our complete structure (right or wrong) is built around a product we cannot live without, and the handful of companies that offer that product all offer it at the same price, raise it on speculation but wont lower it cause-you've-already-been-paying-it,are taking advantage of the situation. Couple that with the fact that it rose so fast, we are really hurting.
Some say that well that $40 billion is still only 8-10%, well I say it is still $40 billion. You know I would be happy with $1 million even if it was .0001% profit, myself.
And to the blurb that the feds can do nothing...its funny that they can regualtepower companies, phone companies, whatever they feel like when they want to...Oh but Shearpinn, oil isnt a monopoly...oh but it is! It may not be a true 1 but when Exxon and Shell sell for $3 a gallon and Texaco isnt $1.50 (maybe less profit per gallon but they will have all the customers ='ing more profit), it is a monoploy...when my choicesare todrive or not drive..scratch that..I have to drive...just spending alot more time at home...which runs up the light bill...AHHHHHHHHH!
