Default Cam Bearing

I have one of those 99 RK that needs to replace that/those bearings before Im on the side of the road. I really would appriciate some insight from anyone experienced in doing this, Im sure I can do it, but Im not sure how far to go and would like some opinions. I have 17000 miles on a carbed RK. SHould I just go in and change the bearings and tensioners, or go with the 26G route....Not sure I want the expense yet, thought I would do the cams when I blow out the top @ 30k miles.. Also I would really like some tips on where to rent or buy tools, possible pics of the procedure, and tricks I could use from you guys who know and been there, this will be my first time. Thanks fellas for any help!!

If you decide not to go high buck, but want to update your bearing, maybe you should consider swapping in a set of SE203 cams. You can get them used for nearly free off of eBay.

I have a 2000 that was a bad bearing bike. I rode it 52k before I updated it. I put in 26G's and do not regret it a bit.

I went with the 26G cams and gear drive....I think it is one of the best improvements I have made to my bike....You will need the a/c and fuel management IE fuel pack ot TFI or power commander and Im sure you already have pipes....If you want it to pull like a truck go with the 26g's.....Good luck in what ever you decide to do...Jer

I did mine myself, wasn't a big deal. But I have an endless supply of tools left from my mechanic days. If I had to describe the difficulty level, it reminded me of putting bearings in a GM alternator, I hope that makes some sense to you.

You don't have to screw with a fuel management system on a carbed bike. A $3.00 48 pilot jet will do the trick! Gear drives, torrington bearings, and worry no more.

Where are you located at. I'm in Colorado and have the tools. Just not sure I want to ship them. Are you thinking of going with adjustable push rods?

I also have a '99 RKC and I installed S&S 510 gear drive cams (it's great)
Here's the instruction

BTW who says you will blow out the top @ 30K miles ???

Go with adjustable push rods, so you don't have to remove
fueltank and rocker covers.
