Sorry that I wasn't more clear. I couldn't shop around to begin with because with the deal of my bike came $2000 in parts and accessories. So the stealership ordered the parts. I couldn't just shop around for the cheapest prices and then tell my dealer to purchase the parts through other vendors. They dropped the ball by not ordering the parts as originally planned so when they did go to order the parts they were on back order. They kept lying to me saying that the parts would be in by the end of the week. Well, that was 2 and a half weeks ago. So I raised a stink this past Saturday. I want all $2000 in parts as agreed in contract to be used. So since I found the parts and now my stealership has purchased the parts for $132 cheaper.......I want that extra money. $2000 was agreed to and I want to use all $2000. $132 could go towards another part or parts or service. I hope that I'm being clear.
Just so I can understand this better,in the purchase price of your new bike (msrp) ? the dealership threw in, as an incentive $2000.00 in parts, no extra cost to you,at retail, just to sweetin the deal? and because you found them cheaper, after the fact, you want money back?
Just curious......[sm=confused06.gif]
Sorry pal, but you agreed on $2000.00 worth of parts at RETAIL. Not at dealer cost. What makes you think its a lie that they are on back order from the supplier that the dealer uses? Dealers DO NOT look around for the best price, they use the same suppliers all the time. If the part is on back order they wait for it to come off. The fact that you told them about another supplier that had it in stock didnt change your deal, it got your part sooner! Would you have paid MORE if it cost them more to get it in. HELL NO you wouldn't have.
Sounds like your getting ALL the parts you agreed on and now you want more.
Parts go on and off of back order ALL the time, dealers dont have control over when a part is received from a third party supplier.
You got your parts you got your bike. Be HAPPY and enjoy it!!!!!!!!
I guess I'm just looking at the principal of things. To me, principal means a lot. To me your word means a ton! I don't think lying to customers is good practice. This is my first Harley. I've been riding for 18 years. I figure I'm from the city of Harley......I assumed I would get good service. My last bike was a $20,000 Italian sport bike and I received nothing but great service.
What makes me think it's a lie is the fact that I called the dealers supplier and the parts where in stock at the time that they told me that they ordered the parts. My dealer never ordered the parts. Lie number one. Lie number two was today, when they just couldn't tell me that they ordered the parts from the supplier I told them that had the parts in. They told me that they were shipped from their supplier. They made a ton of money off of me already and to me, $132 is $132. I signed a contract for $2000 and I think it should be honored. Obviously, just my thoughts.

If they lied, thats bad on them. BUT you agreed on the parts and that is what you got. You didnt respond to paying more if it had cost them more so I assume you WOULD NOT. So why should they change thier price if they got it for less.
I guess this would only make sence to someone who has owned a business and knows what it takes to run one, but when I owned my own shop if I qouted you a price that was the price you paid. Didn'tmatter if it cost me MORE than what I quoted or less.
If you think they made a TON of money off you by selling you a bike and throwing in 2000.00 worth of parts you are SERIOUSLY mistaken. There is not that much profit in the bike sale!
Most of us common folks have two kinds of time in our lives...work time and leisure time. After a few eye-opening experiences in combat, I realized that leisure time is much more valuable than work time. Only you can decide how much of this precious, irreplaceable leisure time of your life you want to sacrifice in the name of principle or the pursuit of money.
If I decided to pursue this $132 (not likely, I can always get more money, but I can't get more time and I don't know how much time I have left), I'd go to the owner...not the service writer, parts guy, or general manager...the owner, calmly explain what happened and see what he says/does. If I'm not satisfied, he loses my business.
I am in agreement with D.I.175. If they don't want to do the right thing then take your business elsewhere. It's about the only way you can stick it to them. I made sure I let the manager of my local HD shop know that I drive right by their shop to get to the next shop and it is 45 miles up the road. When he asked why I told them that I caught them lying to me about some service they said they had done when I know they hadn't. I make it a point to buy everything I can somewhere else and I tell everyone I know what they did to me.
Wow, there is a lot of ink on this, but read, again, what 2003flhtcisaid. I think he hit it out of the park. I understand your concern, but it's not worth the heartache... talk to the owner, and remember: You catch more flies with honey....
It seems you agreed to $2,000 worth of their prices.
For anyone doing a deal like this, do it the way I did:
Take all your parts andaccessories and add up the retail cost, then take off 20% (or whatever) and factor that into your deal. That way you know exactly what you're getting and for what price. Make sure you include specific part numbers so there's no confusion.
I'm not saying I got the deal of the century, but I'm ok with it.
Where was the dealer getting the parts from? I know backorders are hard to deal with. If the parts were ordered and placed on a backorder status and they told you next week, when you would call next week they would have the parts and alot of vendors don't carry a lost sale, or recent backorder history. Once the part changes status, the operator will not know of past backorders. They can tell you if you have vendor codes and order status, but not new phone calls. Might have been mistaken information. As a dealer we get it all the time with certain vendors, even MOCO. Did you know when the MOCO gives a bakcorder release date, that is not the date it will be avalible to the dealer. That is the expected date of arrival at Franklin. They have two days processing and then filling orders, before shipping to a dealer. If we get a release date of 17 March 08, I may not get the part until 24 March 08. However if you call and ask if this part number is avalible on the 17th, they will say "ya, we got plenty of them." I don't believe in lieing to customers but backorders can be a pain.
Sorry that I wasn't more clear. I couldn't shop around to begin with because with the deal of my bike came $2000 in parts and accessories. (You said in your original post that you "paid" for the parts already--not exactly the same is it?) So the stealership ordered the parts (When???). I couldn't just shop around for the cheapest prices and then tell my dealer to purchase the parts through other vendors. They dropped the ball by not ordering the parts as originally planned (Which was when???)so when they did go to order the parts they were on back order. They kept lying (which assumes whoever you were talking to knew what they were telling you was false, rather than simply repeating incorrect informatin from their vendor)to me saying that the parts would be in by the end of the week.
So, your point is that the dealershould refund or make good the difference between the retail list price you were going to be charged and the discounter's price available to you? If your dealer bought the parts paying retail prices that were available to you, he's already lost money because his wholesale price from Drag Specialties or other wholesalers would have been less than the retail price available to you.
So I see very, very little reason for you to be pissed or referring to your dealership as a "stealership."
