Default M6 or Harley?

When I change to the 3.37 primary drive, I was going to change the tensioner over while I have everything open. I used to hear about Harley's ratcheting up too tight, has that been fixed? I was planning on using the Hayden M6 as I'veheard good things about it. Has there been any improvement to the Harley model that should make me go with that versus the M6?

I've had the Harley one in my Road Glide for 40,000 miles now with no problems.

I've had the M6 on two different bikes and really like it. First one was on 1994 Ultra, buddy now has that bike with almost 100,000 miles no trouble what so ever. Current bike isan 05 Ultra only around 10,000 also no problems. I don't have any experience with the Harley tensioner.

I use to believe that overtightening nonsense before really looking over the HD tensioner. Take a good look at how it works and you will see that cannot happen unless some tech decides to force it beyond it's natural tensioning method. It has a secondary spring action which is seperate from the primary ratchet adjustment.

Using one on my bike. I have several hundred miles on it so far but I can tell you this the shift knock is gone and it works so much smoother.

I had an M6 on my '96 RK between 20k and 88k, at which time I discovered the springs had broken. Being taken aback and lacking trust the springs were up to the task, I reinstalled the stock tensioner until the HD item was introduced. I installed it and had no trouble with it, although it wasn't on long before I sold the bike. The SG now has 16.5k and the HD auto tensioner, now a stock item, has been fine. I check the chain at each primary oil change and it seems properly adjusted on a visual check. This is no more than a check with a flashlight and long screwdriver, but I'm satisfied.

The HD tensioner does add a bit of noise to the primary area, sort of a low-pitched whine, noticeable mostly at low speeds and idle, but never have I considered it an irritation. I dont' recall the M6 making any noise at all, but I wouldn't install this item on my bike with the knowledge the spring(s) could break at any time. The HD item also has springs in its construction, but I can't say how long these will last.
