Another possible cause is if you have a after market clutch lever and it isnot designed to engage the safety button on the clutch perch. I bought after market levers for my 07 and now I have to start the bike in neutral. The clutch leverdoes not engage the safetybutton.

If you bought it used the old owner may have replaced the clutch lever with a pre 07 one that
doesn't have the extention that moves the neutral switch in and out.

New to 07 Ultra classic it will not start unless it is in neutral

even if you pull clutch in all the way it will not start put it in neutral and starts right up
