many. many of us have not shimmed the brake lever.
basically a piece of cardboard inserted into empty space created by squeezing hand brake...there is a little rubber nipple on the tip of hand brake switch that gets torn easily if the housing is closed with-out maintaining hand brake slightly squeezed/ like braking...
you might be lucky and the tip on switch is just squished or out of allignment from closing with-out shim..
if not it is replaceable...dealer will have part..under $20
NOTE : cover gas tank and front fender when you work on the bike..stuff likes to fall and create dents..
My money is on a pinched wire on the throttle side. I did it once installing new grips. I don't know if it caused the brake light problem but the dealer had to replace a part.
As for the cruise control not setting, could be cable adjustment. My cruise control would not set after I changed grips. Found information on this site on how to trouble shoot the cruise control system. This site "Rocks" when you need a hand or information. Type in Cruise Control in the Search Function. Definitely take a look at the brake lever switch!
Forgot about the brake switch. Broke mine when I put my cruise control on. PITA to solder a new one in. [:@] If your brake switch is on, your cruise control cannot engage.
