I put new hand grips on my 05 RK Classic today. When I got the right controls back together and took it for a ride, I noticed that when I hit the switch (left grip) the red Cruise Control light comes on the console. But when I try to set it with the rightswitch, NADA!
When I got it home and back in to the garage, I noticed no brake lightseither. Foot brake or hand brake. I pulled the fuse box and the fuse look good. Replaced it anyways but still nothing (Cruise and Brake on the same fuse).
Anyone got any suggestions? I took the controlsback off the right side and looked around. All wires look good as do the connections! Do the controls ground to the handle bars? Everything else works! Horn, blinkers, ignition switch, and start button.
Damn.. Supposed to be some nice weather this weekend!
Maybe the plug inside the fairing isn't seated properly and the least bit of stress was enough to pull a corner of it away from itself? A long shot, but it would only take a few minutes of puling the front fairing to make sure.
If the fuses look good, I have to go with something unplugged. If you severely pinch a wire it will blow the fuse as soon as you hit the brake or tried to turn the cruise on, Don't ask me how I know[8D]
pretty certain I didn't pinch anything. pulled the insallation back as far as I could.
iron..
l'll find the plug you're talking about. would that disable the foot brake light too?
My guess is your brake light is on all the time and just looks like it is not on. Here is the million dollar question, did you shim the front brake lever when you pulled things apart? If not you probably broke the little plunger switch that controls the brake light and cruise. Don't ask me how I know this.....
I had the dealerfix the plunger. I DID NOT follow the directions when I replaced my grips and broke the damn thing and no you do not have to replace the whole housing. Just a $20 part that cost about an hours worth of work. Don't ask me how I know either.
