Default Biketronics or HawgWired Wiring Adapter

Does anyone here know if the Biketronics or Hawgwired wiring adapter will work for anything other than a SONY or PIONEER head unit? I know that will have to cut the end off and wire it for my stereo, but before I order a PAC unit online and do all my own wiring it would be nice to know if theirs would work since I have to order one anyway????

BTW, I have sent both companies an email already it would just be nice to have an answer before Monday when they get back into the office. If I am screwed then I can go ahead and order a PAC unit now and start tearing into the stock wiring.

Thanks,
Jeff

both Pez (Hogtunes) and Mike (Biketronics) are great guys to dela with...terriffic customer service. i have usually gotten a reply from each within the same day...M-F..Even had both to call me directly when i had a question that was not easily answered by email.
IIRC...the harness is sony/pioneer specific due to the connections in the rear of the actual radio/unit.
I have a sony unit that i got for 110$ from amazon new. Wroks great. I have the biketronics module to work w/ the handlebar controls and the hogtunes speakers/pods, etc.

Jeff, sent you a PM last night.

But perhaps someone using the Hawg-Wired unit or knows from PERSONAL experience can answer a question: Does the Hawg-Wired unit preserve the Automatic Volume Control function that allows the volume to automatically be reduced, for example, when stopping at a stop sign/traffic light, and increase the volume when returning to cruise speed?

My Biketronics unit does this, but I've read that the Hawg-Wired unit does not.

According to my '04 SM wiring diagram, the radio gets the bike's speed signal which the AVC uses for the raising/lowering radio volume--pin 9 in the Base Audio Connector.

AVC is a very handy feature 'cause I don't have to adjust the volume when stopping and resuming cruise speed. Didn't realize how useful it is until I learned how to turn it on a few weeks after installing the Biketronics unit.

Jeff...

The only head unit the Biketronics kit works 100% with is the Sony as that's what hey designed it for and after. With Pioneer, you lose the source control functions. I know it will work with some other heads as well but was told it's hit and miss with what will work for other brands. I have a brand new PAC unit in the box so if you go that direction let me know and I'll sell you mine at a good price. I ordered both and don't need the PAC converter. Bought it from Crutchfield.

JBHawley,
If you look back at my original post you will see that I knew that I had to cut the plug off that is easy enough to do what I didn't know is if the units were programmable like the PACs units or if they were Sony / Pioneer specific. I did hear back from Biketronics last night and it will not work with the Alpine units.

The Sony and pioneer units share many of the same internals that is why they can use the same pigtail and interface, but I have never been big on either line except for the Pioneer Elite series. I bought the Alpine unit I did because of the success I have had with them in the past and for the features it has and am willing to do a little more work to install it to keep those features.

Thanks for your comments they are appreciated.

Carl,
I replied back to your PM, but from everything that I have read it does not appear that the Hawg-Wired system has AVC like the biketronics system. I am waiting on a reply back from Hawg-Wired right now, but it looks like the wiring is up to me on this one anyway. Once I get everything done I will look at adding this function as I am sure they are just tagging the VSS wire should be to hard to figure it out. Just got to take it one step at a time.

Yea according to the PAC documentation the Alpine, Sony, Pioneer, JVC, Kenwood, Clarion, Eclipse, and Blaupunkt have all the same basic functions you just have more added controls with the Alpine. I am not sure it is worth the $150 gamble to get it hack it up just to find out it doesn't work and have to use the PAC anyway. Which PAC do you have? I am still waiting to hear back from Hawg-Wired and have one other local place to check, but I will let you know before I order it online.
