The answer to the question is whatever you are willing to spend. I am on a tight budget and went on the cheap. Nevertheless, the system sounds really good. Here's what I installed:
ANitro-BMW43 4 channel 300 watt amp ($30.00). The specs are: [*]Dual gain control [*]Plug in harness [*]Built-in double side PCB [*]Low THD [*]Low power consumption [*]Low heat emission [*]LED power indicator [*]Turn on/off by remote (I connected it to the live wire on the lighter)[*]RMS Power Handling : 45W x 4 [*]Max Power Handling : 75W x 4 [*]THD @ 4ohm : 0.8% [*]Channel Separation : 55dB [*]Frequency Response : 20Hz-20kHz (What the human ear can hear!)[*]Input Impedance : Low level 10k ohms [*]Dimension : 4.5" x 1.6" x 3.7" (WHL) (Small enough to install over the radio inside the fairing)
I also installed a Nitro (BMW-CV) 2 Channel Hi-Low Impedance Converter($15.00) with a set of Polk Audio db521 marine rated 5-1/4" speakers ($100), because the Harley radio does not have RCA outputs. Total cost=$145.00 + 1 hour of my time to install. As good a sound as you can get from 5-1/4" speakers!Works like a champ!
You can go higher end and get better sound (I've heard a few). It boils down to what YOU want as far as sound, and what YOU are willing to pay for it.
Quick and easy solution, is Hogtunes speakers....much better, louder, clearer at speed. And only $90, easy to swap!

Paid less than that for my Infinity speakers.Who makes the HogTunes speakers for that company anyway? Does anyone know? Pez...willing to let us know that info?
Take a look at the Mbquart RAB-250 very small footprint and may fit in the fairing. The smallest amps that I found after weeks of research, for the dragonfly that I have for mine, mbquart RAB-250, boston acoustics GT20. I ended up with a kenwood KAC-5203 but I do not have a stock fairing.
I just installed a set of Polk db521, I don't think they sound any better than stock. With that being said they are 4ohm and I kinda of figured that the 2ohm head unit would not have enough power to drive them. So now it is time to sped more money and buy an amp. Hopefully this will solve my problem. I think I am going to install a Blaupunk tha 275 pnp, anyone have any feedback on this amp?
You guys keep spending top dollar on your audio systems that will be polluted by exhaust, road, and wind noise. I'll save my money and remain quite happy with the pyramid EQ/Booster similar to this one http://www.qualitycaraudio.com/store...dproduct=16969that I installed three years ago. If its ever distorted or had some sub-optimal sound quality, I've NEVER heard it rolling down the road. But I can hear my music quite clearly even on days with a 30mph crosswind.
I believe I spent about $40.00 for my amp/eq and it fit neatly right on top of my stereo in the fairing. You guys shucking out hundreds of dollars for the hawgwired setups, have too much money to waste.
Just installed my Pyle 240 watt amp last night.....unit sets on top of stereo...tight fit...but it fits!....sound is awesome.....I think I pissed off the neighbors.....can't wait to hear it at 70 mph.
