if you just nock the baffles out youll be fine no mapping needed
Mapping will be needed for it to be right! You can get by like that for a while tho...
I agree stock airbox and punch the centers, I have done it. Very llittle popping.
Just so you know, I cut my left side stock header off at the "Y" and plugged it. I am now running a thundercone slip-on (not the one in the sig pic) and it sounds awesome! Very, very, close to a thunderheader. I used a thunderheader map in my PCIII with +1 with the buttons in the mid range.
I have a set of stockers with the centers punched in interested. I also have a extra thundercone...
knocking out the baffles is not that easy. in the end when you are not happy with the result you will at the least be buying slip ons save the effort leave the stock stuff alone
+1 with n.o. yat, if you do go ahead and remap, do it before you knock out the baffles. Tell them you are doing a stage 1 yourself to remap for that and you'll be OK, they might no remap after you knock them out, "warranty". I did it for about 6 months, checked my spark plugs every months to see how it effected the motor, not bad.
Then I added a Thundermax, V&H true duels and Peacemakers, now sounds great when open and OK when closed. I agree with the others best to go ahead and get some slip-ons and remap, but I know how tight money is for us all, that is one reason I waited and I was trying to figure out what exhaust system I wanted to go with, but didn't want to wait on the sound as the stock sound is pretty sick, IMO.
If you do knock out the baffles, you might start with drilling the holes in them bigger at first, then if the sound is still not loud enough you can knock out the front and rear baffle or only one at a time, be careful as it's not easy to just knock them out sometimes they can get hung up inside and be really hard to get out as ariding buddy ofmine found out.
Can you put the big city thunder in the stock exhaust? i just got the stimulus check, but dont want to blow it all on a set of 600 exhaust...im thinking maybe some slip ons or the big city thunder..
A lot of people are really happy with the Rush slip ons and I dont think they will break the bank. You shouldnt need to do anything with the mapping until you change the air flow into the engine.
