I've got a Garmin Nuvi 260W GPS and I'm wanting to mount it on my '05 EG Classic from time to time. It has the suction cup mount which was designed to work on an automobile windshield and seems to work ok on my bike's windshield, but I'm worried that the constant vibration will cause it to eventually lose it's grip and fall off while I'm riding down the road.
We're getting ready to leave on a 3000+ mile trip and would like to not be worried the whole trip about the GPS falling off.
So, has anyone came up with a viable alternative mounting solution for their GPS'? Granted, I could have gone with Harley's GPS solution, but $300 bucks for a better GPS is far better than spending the $800 Harley wants.
cyclegadgets.com then look for ram mounts I have one for my tom tom that i bought originally bought for my car...the ram mount is great on the bike ...
You are definately correct the suction mount will eventually vibrate loose. This happened to me with a Magellan, fortunately the power cord did not seperate from the unit and I did not loose it. I now have a ram mount.
I didn't want a permanent mount because I seldom use my Nuvi 200 on the bike. So I ordered another mount, and put a 1" stud in the bottom of the part with the ball. I then drilled a 3/16" hole in my windshield bag. I use a flat washer and wing nut to secure the mount to the windshield bag. When not in use, I remove the entire mount and place a decorative screw in the hole.
