Now that you mention it I'm not a big fan of the silver engine either. I never gave that any consideration while making my decision on a bike purchase but unfortunately that will make a big difference. The Ultra's tour pack, CB and intercom are items I do not want at this time so it looks like I should go back to what caught my eye when I first started my search.....the Street Glide. Looks like I'll be renting one of those now just to be sure. I'd rather spend the small amount of $$ now on renting than have regrets later after I bring my first Harley home. Thanks everyone. I'll keep ya posted on my decision.
Smitty,
I've had two Ultras, an EG Standard, and now an EG Classic. All are great bikes. One of the things to consider is if you dress up the Standard for many hundreds (thousands ?) of dollars, if you trade it in, those add-ons won't be worth anything. If you dress down an Ultra or Classic, you can redress it for trade-in and it will then become an Ultra or Classic again.
1) I have the cruise on my RK and I wonder how I ever got along without one.
Amen to that. I had no idea how much I would use the cruise. It would be hard to get along without it now.
Why do you like the cruise control so much - so you can take your right hand off the bars? This is a serious question. I've never considered using cruise on a bike as I've ridden on some fairly long trips and operating the throttle has never been an inconvenience.
I agree with MWike. If It just to rest your right hand oince in a while you use the screw adjustment to give yourself a break.

I first had the electronic cruise on my 05 road king and I never really wanted it,but as a classic it was standard.
I loved it right away! My 06 Ultra has some things I may never use (cb), but who knows?
The cruise control works just like on your car. Very nice on those long rides. Just set it and forget it.

I like Cruise on a bike for the same reason I love it on a car...so I don't throttle myself into a ticket in the LEO filled zones on our local interstates. The Cruise keeps me safe from unwanted Citations. Plus, it does give me the chance to rest my right arm from time to time.
My friend and I road to Sturgis last summer. He had cruise and I did not. I had to keep adjusting constinstantly to match his speed. It was a pain in the a$$ considering we rode 3,000 miles that week. This year I will have cruise for sure.
Figure you are confused enough already but I would think the EG Classic deserves another look - A great middle of the road compromise and it's easy to add the CC before taking delivery - I know I would never use the cb and I am not what else you get for the three grand extra that makes the Ultra worth it - I hate the stock radio but Hogtunes saved it until it dies - I will go with aftermarket radio after that.
The way I am thinking is that with the EG classic you get the radio and could add CC, make the tourpak detachable and add a Passenger and rider backrest for less then the 2k difference for the Ultra price - Just a guess on my part but I would think you could get the lowers and still be at 2K or at least right around there - Yes I have a EG Classic and yes I am prejudice so sorry if I confused you more!
