Default HD Rental Report

On Saturday, 2/25, I rented a 2006 HD Electra Glide Ultra for 24 hours. I actually wanted the HD Electra Glide Standard because that's what I'm planning on purchasing within the next few weeks but they did not have one. I was told the Ultra's overall handlebar, fairing, seat and floorboards are almost identical to the Standard so that's what I went with. I wanted to make sure the EG was the bike for me so I spent all afternoon and most of the next morning in the saddle and loved every minute of it. I was like a little kid playing with all those buttons and *****. Having a stereo and electronic cruise control was wonderful. I've never owned a Harley before so now I'm really looking forward to purchasing my Electra Glide. Now I know first hand what I've been missing for so many years. The Ultra Classic was very nice but I still want the sleeker look of the EG Standard. I can guarantee you that it will include the cruise control and I'll be installing an aftermarket stereo system too. Enjoy the ride because soon I will too!

Not knowing what your financial situation is, you may want to consider the Ultra and take the trunk off when you aren't using it. That way you already have everything you could need. when you need it. my .02 cents.[&:]

You would be better off buying the ultra and getting a quick detack for the tourpak when you dont want to use it. you can also take off the lowers and use them in winter ,on trips or in inclement weather. The big reason is that by the time you install the radio, buy the speakers antanae, the wiring harness and the cruise module you will spend more than if you got the ultra to start with. the wiring harness is 450, speakers 200,hd stereo 1100.00 cruise 450,00 labor if you dont do it about 5-600. do the math. plus you will get a cb with the ultra.

Listen to the folks in here....they speak from experience. If your liking the standard because of the blonde engine then that's one thing....I personally like the black engines better. The Ultra has all the toys from the factory and are covered under the warranty. If you add it all later...then you are spending money on stuff that is 100% out of your pocket if you have problems later. It's not going to change the price much to move up to the Classic. If you want everything....get the Ultra. I went with the Ultra and I can remove the lower fairings and tourpack and have that sleek look your are referring to. I think you will be happier with the Ultra and you won't have to spend the money later. It will equal out to the same amount of money in the end for cruise control and the stereo system with speaker pods and tourpak.

Good luck.

I agree with the others, it is easier and cheaper to trim down the Ultra. I trimmed mine down.

I have a EG STD and I have dumped money into an HD stereo. I never did get the cruise control, I just use the throttle lock. I don't know that's it's cheaper to go with the Ultra and trim back or not. I still don't have the tour pack, though I keep saying that I'm going to get one. It's 6K less for the STD, and I don't think I will put 6K into the bike making it like an Ultra. TNW, if I had the money at the time of purchase, (which I didn't), I would do what everyone here is saying to do, get the Ultra and trim it back. I do think I should have bought the classic, and trimmed it back...though you still won't have cruise, nor will you have the four speakers, and a few other goodies...

Let us know what you do.

2 things to add................

1) I have the cruise on my RK and I wonder how I ever got along without one.

2) After you put down some $$ at the dealership, you can ride all the bikes. Atleast at my dealer
