I've been a hard core H-D enthusiast for over 20 years, and this last May I finally treated myself to a touring hog. I bought a 2007 Electra Glide Standard with a plan to slowly turn it into an Ultra as $$$ became available. Well, $$$ is available, and so I want to install an electronic cruise control on the bike. My dealer, who I think is full of crap, says Harley doesn't make a cruise kit for an 07 FLHT. Ummmmm....really??? I find this hard to believe. If the 2007 Electra Gllide Ultra Classic can have a cruise control...then so can my standard. Wiring harness issues? So what...I'll install an ultra's harness. My question is this: what are the best options here? This is my first touring model...so I'm a little "touring model stupid" right now, but I'm willing to learn. What does the group have to offer? I'm all ears!
They did make them, but discontinued them. Some dealers might have some old stock left I found one in pa. last year. I think the 08's were the same part with different plugs.
My '07 RoadKing Classic came with factory cruise. maybe you could order the stock setup. I never use it;I don't think cruise has any place on a bike. But that's just me.
Sell your used Classic and buy a used Ultra. You'll be much further ahead in the long run.
Sell my Standard???? Are you kidding? Never. I have spent too many months in Iraq putting money away to buy my new baby...and I will never sell it. I'm back in Iraq now finishing my tour while my bike sits in the garage with the wife starting it up and letting it run for 10 minutes here and there. It's taken me over 8 years to get another Harley...and this one isn't goin' anywhere. Used doesn't matter to me...it's a blank slate that I can make my own. Thanks for the suggestion Danzio, but the Standard stays brother!
You absolutely CAN put electronic cruise control on your bike, finding the parts is going to be the hard part.
I know this because I found a NOS cruise kit for a 1996 Road King about a year ago. Yeah a 1996 Magnetti Marelli injected Road King. I had the dealer put it on (it was horrendously complicated) and it worked as good as any cruise control in any car I've ever owned.
Find the part number for the kit you need (Google will be your friend) and check eBay. Google the part number, be patient, and you'll find what you need.
When you find it I'd recommend having a dealer install it as much as I hate to say it. It is very complicated and there are a LOT of parts.
I have cruise on my 07 Standard, there was a part number change I think for 08. You just need the kit for the 07. You may need to find a dealer that has one in stock, or find out what the change was all about. Someone here will know.
The Road King switches will not work for the Electra Glide.. NO STEREO CONTROLS...
It is hard as hell to find cruise control for our '07 model bikes.. I was lucky and found a takeoff setup from a CVO bike that somebody was willing to part with.. Cost me $475 used.... There is a company making new assemblies but you will have to pay dearly for 'em... $850...
I was going to lay down the cash if I didn't find one.. After my trip to Sturgis I am convinced it would have been worth every penny.

Okay, Okay!
I mis-understood. I thought you wanted to turn your Classic into an Ultra, step by step. I see it's a Standard and you want to start bare bones and work your way up. I respect that and wish you the best. And also would like to say thank you for your service to our country.
