Had a nice weekend with a few slightly close calls. Brother and I rode up to Eagle River, WI from Green Bay on Saturday. Planned on staying with a relatives cottage in Eagle River. On the ride up, riding staggard, we were on a stretch of road, 4-lanes wide. We were in the hammer lane and the highway was going to merge to 2-lanes. Some D!ck in an old Suburban pulling a boat was in a helluva hurry. Anyway, at the point where we merge to 2-lanes, this D!ck was right next to my bro and starts merging over, pushing my bro into oncoming traffic. D!ck finally backs off and pulls behind my bro. Little hair raising for him needless to say.
Then, we get to my uncles place. He has about a 600 foot sandy drive way. Most of it was hard enough to ride on, but I almost dumped the 06 Electra Glidetwice with the wife on - I was first. Bro make it in with his 06 Street Glide w/out too much issue. Leaving on Sunday, it had rained and bro damn near dumped it on the way out.
Lastly, we were riding through the woods, me in front w/ about 30-40 feet between us. Deer running full speed out of the woods split right between us. I never saw it, and it was so fast, the deer was almost across the road before my bro saw it.
All in all, it was a good weekendof riding, even with the few close calls.
No parking it here. Not at the price of today's fuel. Just goes to show you need to stay on your toes. In the sand, I knew it was going to be tough, just that was the first time i've had that big a bike in the stuff. Didn't help having the wife on board and we were loaded down with gear. That and it looked hard packed and wasn't. Ride on!!!!
Next time you have to get the wife to hop off and run in front of you poking the ground to test for loose sand. Then let me know how that works out for you.

I've been lucky with deer, but in the month of April I had five close calls, four of which were merging issues like you mention. I think people get the bike in their blind spot and just don't see it, although one of my close calls involved an 18-wheeler that I know saw me. He got an earfull and I called his company. My plan is to stay well away from that blind spot when possible. So far so good in May, so maybe it was just a quirk.
glad everything went ok on the close calls. as for the deer....keep your eyes open. i hit pne on my FXRS back in 90, ended up breakin left leg in 2 places and alsobroke right wrist.

This one happened with my bro riding at about even with this guy's front fender - he saw him without a doubt. It was completely bullsh!t and uncalled for. As for the deer - i was watching, just didn't see it. It came out of the woods in a full sprint my bro said, almost as thou something was chasing it. Hope we're good for a while.
