My new Ultra did exactly the same thing the first day I rode it away from the dealer. After about 3 hours of riding the throttle would not go below 1800 rpm. I called the dealer and he told me to turn the run button on and cycle the ignition switch for about 10 seconds each time,four times. It worked, but I have had to do this procedure several times over the last few weeks. It's getting to be quite a nuisance. Because SOME bikes don't have this problem, does not mean NO bikes have the problem!

Interesting information. \\; \\;I wonder if there have been mulitple revisions of the flash since 08 production started. \\; From day 1, I thought mine had the loose cable sensation and have never had the high idle. \\; In fact, I have tried to make mine do it. \\; No matter how I've shut down, I fire up with the proper idle.
 \\;
If there are multiple versions, I would have to think I got the earliest of all. I pulled my bike off the floor on July 31 last year. \\; Mine didn't come with the EITMS programmed from the factory. \\; Maybe there is more than just a heat managment upgrade in that version
I believeYamaha R1 has had it for a year. If not that bike then it is one of the main fours literbikes. Supposedly this is hot technology and you will see alot more of it. I commend Harley for goiong with it.

What's the whole point of TBW? \\;\\\\\\; There was nothing wrong with the cables, and so far as I know, the TBW doesn't do anything extra that the cables weren't doing an excellent job with anyway. \\;\\\\\\; There are documented problems popping up with this that wouldn't have taken place with the cable system. \\;\\\\\\; The service manager at my local dealer said he expects there to be a recall once they've debugged the issues popping up.
Still no one has answered this, whats the point of throttle by wire?

I guess that's a very good question to be asking in the design/pre production phase. But at this point, it's installed and on the road. \\; In the end, the answer is a moot point as it won't correct any issues that \\;exist. \\;
two answers:
 \\;
1.Forum members have beat the noisy 6 speed tranny issue to death and are running out of things to complain about
2. It's "different" The TC96 was a bad engine when it was introduced The 6 speed tranny was a bad change when it was introduced Accepting change takes time

Just pickup up an 08 Ultra. Fly by wire is making me nuts. Anybody have any updates as to what HD is doing about this? I can't seem to get any answers from the Dealer

I havent had any trouble after 3800 miles exept that once a week or so i have reset the throttle position. Its not a big deal to me. I think the people that are having trouble need to stop turning the bikes off early or stop revving them up before they turn them off thats when computer is going to read at the next start up.
I don't understand why so many pissed people on this thread either. This throttle thing is a legitimate complaint. I had no problem until Monday, 5600 miles. I had read about it but had not had the problem. I asked the service rep last week and he also told me HD was working on the problem. Because I was aware of the problem I have been very careful about shutting the engine down while on the throttle and still had the problem. I also noticed something nobody has described yet. While trying to fix the problem, after restarting, with the cruise turned off, the cruise light came on green. Can't explain that. After getting the reset done successfully, no more problems.
The reason I was told HD went with the FBW in the first place was because something to do with making the cruise better. T.

Hmmmm, or maybe the sensor system is half the cost of cables and the labor to route, install and adjust the cables has been eliminated. \\; Believe me, if it didn't cost less, they probably wouldn't have done it.
