now for the truth most people wont tell you they bought a $20000 p.o.s yep i said it the 96 motor is like having a wood burning stove between your legs and the 5th gear sounds like a coffee can with rocks tumbling in it. i will not recommend this combo to anyone nor will i lie to this guy oh and you can try to modify this stuff but it does very little you would be better off getting an older used bike if i could get a full refund on my 07 ultra i would take it and run. one gentelman said you should rent one and i totaly agree with him do it on a 95 deg day and you will see what i meen unless the dealership remapped the bike and added tons of fuel to it you better take plenty of water to douse your shirt with cuz your gonna roast, my buddys 03 fatboy carbed gets better mileage and dont cook like the 96. rent one for the day. before you waste alot of money on a new one.
I'm not sayin the new 96 aint a good engine. \\; But as it is now it aint a great engine yet!! \\; when they get the heat issues fixed and the tranny done right the 96, 6speed should be a great bike. \\; but for now it aint right enough for me to quit on my Great runnin 88" Ultra ...
do search here on the forums for 5th gear noise and 96 heat you will see what i meen as i said b4 most people will not tell you they bought a $20000 wood burning stove that sounds like a coffee can that has rocks tumbling in it.
Welcome aboard. Do some research this is discussed in many threads. All things being equal there is no substitution for cubes.
 \\;
All things are not equal. \\; Stock TC88 and Stock TC96 have the same 3 3/4" bore. \\; The TC96 has longer stroke. \\; Adding 95 kit to TC88 results in an engine with bigger bore (3 7/8") and shorter stroke than a TC96. \\; Night and Day in my opinion.
It is the longer stroke of the TC96 that is generating the extra heat, compared to a TC88, people whine about. \\; Think about it - two engines, both turning 3000 rpm, the engine with the longer stroke - the pistons must travel farther for each revolution - to complete the same # of revolutions in the same time (3000 per minute) the pistons must travel faster. \\; Faster moving pistons will generate more heat. \\;
 \\;
using round numbers. \\; if engine 1, the pistons travel 8 inches per revolution = 24,000 inches per minute at 3000 rpm. \\; If engine 2, the pistons travel 10 inches per revolution = 30,000 inches per minute at 3000 rpm. \\; = more heat.
