the four nuts that are on the quick detach mounts of the RK are where the fairing fits. \\; 10 minute install. \\; Looks like this is be coming common knowledge. \\; I bought one last year for $200 delivered, i see on eBay this year they are running close to $400.
I've been thinking of putting a faring on my RK custom and was also wondering if it was real hard and if it would cost more than buying a detachable. I should've bought a street glide but my wife talked me out of it. Now with the motor upgrade to 103" , hard bags and everything else i've got to much into it to trade in or sell. \\;
I thought that would be how the install would work. I havent recieved the fairing so I was guessing. The unit I bought has a radio box with it. Would that have been an HD unit or aftermarket?
I will let you know how difficult it is to make it work and what it costs me. \\; I will be working on it later this week. If you go with a new detachable fairing with a radio like the Quadzilla, by the time you paint it to match your bike you are looking at over $2k. There are still a few of these old batwings out there in the $200-300 range. Maybe not for long. The SG has made alot of RK owners want to copy the look.
Old post but it might be worth your time to check it out.No need to pony up $2K, for a few dollars more you can get the real thing........I have less than a grand in mine. https://www.hdforums.com/m_3044200/m...tm.htm#3055703
I put an older model (like 86 or so) fairing on my 94 RK in 1995. I wanted to duplicate the quick detach wind shield. I thought about using it as is, IE, bolting it on when I used it, but didn't want to hassle with the light bar each time. I ended up just filing the bolt holes into a 'U' shape so they could slide on or off easily. At first I thought it would not be strong enough, but it was fine for the first 5 or 6 years....the problem was storing it. You could not put any weight on the bracket, you had the hang it on the wall or it would bend. I took the brackets off, and reinforced them with a bit of filler/weld (good thing my brother has a TIG machine!) and it was fine for the entire time I had the bike, almost 14 years. My brother has a RK, and he liked the mod so much, he built one as well. I never had a radio in one, just used an Ipod.
