Default Progressive 440's Install?? Help!!

Putting the 440's on my FLHX. They came with small bag of sleeves and washers/spacers. However, the install instructions for the spacers sucks. Just a very small piece of paper with the listed parts enclosed. It does not have any info for newer bikes. Closest for the Street Glide is 1980-2000 FLT, FLTC which says to use 1 long sleeve and 1 flat washer for each shock eye. No diagram or further instructions. Progressive is closed today so I thought I would throw out the question here?? Obviously, the shoulder part of the sleeve goes through the shock eye towards the bike, but what about the 1/2" washer and what about the stock flat washer and lock washer?? Do these mount along with the added hardware from Progressive? In what direction/configuration?? Any help from someone who put these on would be appreciated?? Thanks........

Gliderman,

I just installed the 440's on my SG. The shoulder end of the sleeve goes inside the shock (towards the bike) like you thought. On the outside of the shock here's the order (inside to outside): 1/2" washer (from Progressive), original lock washer and original nut.

Doug: Thanks for the help. I ended up putting one of the shocks on before I read your response and just as you indicated I took off the stock flat washer and used the Progressive 1/2" washer in it's place and everything lines up nicely. Thanks for confirming the order for me.
Can't wait to see the difference in ride with the 440's.............

You're going to have an ear-to-ear grin on your first ride. The difference in ride quality should be immediately apparent (unless you're putting on a 440 with a lot less travel than stock). Enjoy!!

Doug:

Replaced the stockers with 12" 440's. I did want to ask you about the adjustment on the 440's. According to Progressive, when you turn the adjustment on top, you will see markings on the shock body. I can turn the adjustment all the way over, about 5 or so full turns, and I can't see any markings anywhere. Just wondering what reference mark you use to adjust both shocks equally?? I don't want to keep the adjustment sticker on the upper cap just so I can tell how many turns I've made!!

The reference marks are concentric rings on the inner shock body. You can't see them until you start to twist the upper cover clockwise, which causes the cover to screw down lower on the shock body. For every turn you go down, you will see an additional ring on the inner shock. If you turn the shock cover 3 complete revolutions, you should see 3 of the rings on the inner shock. What I do is start with both shocks on the softest setting (upper covers at their full counterclockwise settings). Then I turn the left and right shock covers clockwise 1 full turn at a time. If that's not stiff enough, I go down a second complete revolution. I use the 6 "dimples" on the upper shock covers as markers to determine when I've done a complete revolution. For solo riding, I find that I like the softest setting the best. I weigh 175 lbs and am using the standard springs. When my wife is on the back of the bike, 2 complete revolutions is perfect. Hope this makes sense.

Lawdogso,

I got them at Wally's Cycle World in Riverside, CA. They had them on special last month for $380. Even if they're not still on special, Wally's sells them everyday for $388 (they retail for $535). Here's a link to Wally's:
