i used ams in my 99 fatboy fer 88,000 miles no problems, been using it in my 06 streetgide fer 50,000 miles ,i use the 20/50 in the engine and primary and 75/90 gear oil in the trans ( GO AMSOIL)
I would not ask a parts manager for a light much less advice. You can get better advice at the McDonalds drive thru. I use amsoil in all my vehicles because i like the difference it made in my truck not because of what i heard. It just works for me. Ask parts boy if he can back up his statement with anything besides what he read in a fortune cookie. Also ask him why some dealers sell it?

I have a 09 RKC on order and have been frequenting this site quite often. I’ve already decided that I will not be using SYN3 after the break in period for the simple fact that it's made by CITGO. What do you think about having synthetic put in at the time of set up? Some people say to break in a motor with conventional oil then switch to synthetic, but I don't know what the reasoning behind that is.
The reason not to use syn during break in is becuase it will take longer to break in...less friction equals less wear equals less break in.
Amsoil...I wont use it. I'm not into MLM schemes, plus their "independent" researchers may not be quite so independent (who really nknows other than Amsoil). Also, in the past (I have not checked lately) they did not carry the API starburst, which could cause a warranty denial. Amsoil counters this with their iron clad warranty, but I'm betting they can weasel out of 99.999% of the claims. I'll stick with Mobil 1, which does carry the starburst.
Just checked the bottles of MCV I have here, they don't have the 'starburst' but the following are listed in bold text on the back, API SG, SL/CF; JASO MA/MA2; API GL-1
Even though no starburst, I don't think Amsoil could put those on the bottle without meeting the API standards.
I know the serice writer at a local dealer. I asked him what he puts in his personal bike, he said redline and "off the record" did not recomend HD oils. I have used HD, Mobile 1 and AMSoil. They all are good imo.
Yep, I agree that they are all good.
Current ride is all HD (360, Formula+)
Last ride, FLTRI, was Mobil 1 V-Twin, redline MTL and Shockproof Heavy.
Changing current ride to Amsoil to see how it does.
I currently use Amsoil in my car and trucks and am very happy with it.
+1 Drew. Amsoil is fine. I've run it in my Hogs - 20W50 synthetic standard or the mysterious "V-Twin" formula synthetic. Run it in my primary, too. I know guys who run the same in all three, but I prefer the Amsoil 75W50 gear oil in my tranny. Works fine, and my dealer told me it's one of two brands that's okay to use.
Jonny brings up a good point. Does anyone know what the difference is between the AMSoil v-twin and the standard AMSoil Syntheic? I am guessing the only difference is the v-twin can be used in the tranny as well. However, I am with Jonny and use the 75-90 AMSoil server gear oil over both of the engine oils.

Quite often the difference between regular oil (automotive) and Motorcycle specific oil is the absense of friction modifiers in the MC oil. This is better for the clutch and doesn't cause slippage.
