Does that mean if I'm caught out on a long trip, with no amzoil, I could add 1/2 quart of any quality 20w50 dino oil and it would OK?

AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is compatible with conventional and synthetic motor oils; however, mixing oils may shorten the oil life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.

Above is from Amsoil's MCV information site

I generally just double the interval/mileage to change the synthetic over when I would change dino oil, my personal opinion

even when using synthetics i still stay with the dealership recommended intervals of 5000 for the engine. primary and transmission i do both at 10,000. i know some folks say you can extend the oil change interval, but as far as i'm concerned, the oil may not be broken down, but its gonna get just as dirty. its not so expensive that i cant change it at 5k.

Never used AMSoil. Put Redline w/ shockproof in tranny (08 Ultra). BIG improvement. A friend put Redline 20w60 in 07 Ultra, motor runs quiter than Mobile 1 Vtwin, and Syn 3! Next change I will probably replace Syn3 with the Redline 20w60.

I must not be the "typical dealership moron" because I use amsoil in my own bike and gladly put it in customers bikes. I deal with a bunch of "indy" shops who all have a different opinion on sythetics, its not just the dealers. If you check out all the Harley forums as we all do you will see everybody is a expert on this subject.
