Talking Installing extended bars on my 08 RK

I have a new 08 RK and the handlebars are very uncomfortable for me. I am 5'9.5 but they need to be a couple of inches further back so I can lean back on the backrest and be able to relax. Need info on doing this myself and which bars I need. Please help.

I also have an 08 road king, and your right the stock bars suck
If you do a seach you will find tons of info on this.
I myself have spent plenty of nights looking for as much info on the subject and after reading post after post, I am going with the Wild 1 cubbys (WO572) so I can go with internal wiring as well, they are a 14 inch ape hanger, and have the slots in the bar cut out already to accept the throttle by wire. I would think anything over a mini ape (10" rise) you will need to extend the wires, as well as brake line.
Best advice I have recieved on this forum is to get a SERVICE MANUAL, not the owners manual, to have it as a back up.
Other than that, if you are not mechanically challenged, you should be able to get through it.
Last thing would be a heads up on the ABS if you have them. I do have them and they look to be the biggest challenge of the whole bar swap.
Just slow and steady, get to know the bike, have some pride in what you have accomplished, and save soom cahs as well.
Best of luck
On a side note I got all my stuff ordered from Johnny at www.HDBIKEPARTS.COM
Just give hime a call and he will take care of you, he is a stand up guy.

Default Police bars

I just put what the dealer called "Police Bars" on my 08 RK. They said that's the first thing the police add to their bikes. I'm 5-8 and needed just a couple inches reach to be comfortable. WOW!! What a difference. It's almost like having a new bike. I'm amazed, even the slow speed manuevering is better. Maybe that's why the police put them on.

I think these are the same bars on the 08 Screamin Eagle RK. You can see them in the brochure. The bike even looks better in my opinion.

They also said the 08 RK is the only bike that you don't have to do any cable extensions for adding these. I paid 1.5 hrs labor. I think the bars were about $70.

If your dealer doesn't know about these, IM me and I'll give you the number to my dealer. They are very knowledgeable about them.

Hope this helps
Banks

I'm the same height as you and had the same dilemma. I just installed the Wild1 508 Road King bars and couldn't be any happier. I just got back from Sturgis and rode 900 miles without any back issues whatsoever. I highly suggest them!!
