You can get $200 per incident towing from Road America (same as HOG) through the Motorcycle Riders Foundation at mrf.org. You do not need to be a member to purchase it and you can make a claim every 7 days.
There are packages available from $20 per year.
I have been towed twice and the service was excellent.

Called HOG for a tow at 9:45 am. We called them back at 10:45 am. The only tow they could arrange was 1 1/2 hours out,
my one and only experience with hog towing sucked ***. stuck on the side of the road for 6 hrs. they never did come out, i was constantly on the phone with them also.

i think i pay about $7.00 more per year for the towing on my insurance policy and the coverage is better than the 'bottom tier' hog package.
Not sure if everyone realizes it or not but HOG doesn't own a nationwide fleet of tow trucks and neither does AAA or Progressive or any other insurance company. They contract the towing service through local companies. These are the same towing companies that your vehicle insurance provider would call if you used them for a call for a tow. The length of time you wait for a tow will depend on how close you are to the local company, how busy they are and how they decide to prioritize their service calls. And whether you get a guy who knows how to load and tie down a motorcycle will be hit or miss as well.

I broke down last month ( fuel filter shell failure) in a rural part of Arkansas. I could not get cell service, but I got a local plumber to trailer my bike home. He charged me $100.00. I submitted the bill to HOG with an explanation and within 2 weeks I was reimbursed.
I had a similar experience. Had a flat about 60 miles from the nearest dealer while on a road trip. Discovered there was an independent shop 4 miles down the road. Called for a tow, got a new tire installed and ended up having a much shorter delay in our trip than it could have been. I paid for the tow and the repair out of my pocket. When I got home I called HOG, explained to the them what the situation was and they told me to send in all my receipts and an explanation and they would see what they could do. In about two weeks, I was reimbursed for the tire repair 100% and for a partial of the tow. My regular insurance coverage with Progressive covered the balance of the tow so in the end it was totally covered and reimbursed.

Wow. 4 or 5 people replying to this thread all had fuel filter canister related breakdowns. I've never seen this "canister" but that seems like a pretty high failure rate.

I have the basic hog membership but I like the sound of the AAA RV package.

Default Motorcycle Towing for HOG / Road America

We are located in St Petersburg, FL service the 6 county area for HOG/ Road America with are Specialized Motorcycle Towing Trucks. HOG Roadside Assistance is an excellent program & paying the little bit for the upgrade is well worth it. A few of the other insurances companies have programs often costing more for Motorcycle Towing & Outsourcing Substandard service providers that don't have the correct equipment or staff to tow motorcycles damage free. Always ask if the service provider is Motorcycle friendly, as the last thing you want is an issue. The Dealership or Shop can always tell you who can & can't tow a Motorcycle. Good Luck & Ride Safe

I've had Road America for over 15years, I love it, I've broke down in 2002 with a bad stator when I rode my 96 Springer cross country stuck in Sand Mountain, Virginia, They came to me with a flat bed tow truck loaded my bike took me into Charleston, West Virginia, to a place of my choice and all I had to do was sign the paperwork and Thank the Driver. Another time I was headed to the AHDRA meet in Las Vegas, Nv and the battery took a s_____ 10 miles outside of Vegas, they picked me and the bike up, once again with a flat bed tow truck. Towed me into the nearest HD dealer, bought my battery pulled out my tools and changed it in the parking lot, once again just signed the paperwork and thanked the driver. The last incident was on my way in 2006, headed to Glacier to Sturgis and on the first day from home on I 80 to Winnemucca, Nv I hit a piece missing asphalt about 80MPH bike felt weird so I took a look and everything seemed fine, continued on towards Jack Pot,NV on a long sweeping turn the bike started to smoke the rear tire, as I stopped I had broken 1/3 of all the spokes on the left side of the rear tire, and the tire stared rubbing the fender, never blew out, stopped in time. Called Road America on the cell and they dispatched a tow truck from Twin Falls, Idaho. Took a while to get to me and the whole time Road America called back to make sure I was safe and OK. Once again they dispatched a flat bed tow truck and towed me and my bike, I believe close to a 100miles. All I had to do was sign the paperwork and Thank the driver. I would never ride without this coverage. They are GREAT!!!!!!!

I have had AAA for over 30 years. I upgraded the membership to Plus and then to Premier when AAA first offered it. I also have the RV coverage. The total is only $128 per year. It covers anything I drive. I get three tows per year. One 200 miles and two at 100 miles. The Unlock service even covers my house.

I have used it on my Harley several times. Most for flat tire. But once for a blown motor. Tows were from just 5 miles to a 95 mile tow. Always on a Flatbed. I have had my 5th Wheel towed in the middle of Texas for 120 miles to a AAA approved shop when my motor blew.

I have used it across the US. I have never had to wait longer than an hour for a Tow to arrive. I have even had the tow arrive before I got off the phone when I called a friend I was going to meet. (This was in SoCal where they are everywhere)

AAA is cheap insurance for a tow. Just one tow usually would cover several years of membership.

I tried Good Sam for one year. I had my Truck towing my 5th Wheel blow a rear bearing. The tow company Good Sam sent could not handle the tow. I had to wait for over 7 hours for a different tow that could handle the tow. I never had this with AAA. And Good Sam does not give the extra stuff that I get with AAA. (Maps, DMV, Trip Agent)

no, the reason i don't deal with hog/towing is that when i needed it, they left me sitting on the side of the road for 6 hrs. they never did come and get me, but i had a trailer, it just took some time to get there....

roadside assistance/towing comes with progressive insurance. i haven't found a better rate for the same coverage with anyone else. made 2 claims in 10 years, paid promptly on the spot, and gave me more than i expected both times.....

easy, i paid my $20.00 and they never came and got me.... is that reason enough?

I rode from Indianapolis to Fairbanks Alaska last summer. I had a problem on the Alaska Highway 100 miles east of Whitehorse. I had to borrow a satellite phone to call the HOG roadside assistance number. The representative I spoke to came up with every excuse he could think of the keep from sending help. I had paid for the top tier service. I called HOG customer service when I got home and they promised to file a complaint with the assistance service, but I never heard anything after that. This was the only time, I have ever called for roadside assistance and I sure didn't get what I paid for. From my experience, I would say save your money. Others may have had better luck.
