Sounds like service can be hit or miss depending on where your located. I used my HOG basic towing about a month and a half ago. I was fairly pleased with only a hour wait for a tow for a flat tire. Did I read it right in one of these other posts, tire repair is also covered?
Friday:
40 mile tow to dealer at Gillette WY after blow out.
40 minute wait for truck. Cost would have been $240
Monday: 50 mile tow to dealer at Missoula after blow out wait: 45 minutes cost ?
In both cases the operator first asked if I was in a safe place and if I needed Police or Emergency services- before asking for my membership info.
On the Monday, they called back to check on my after 30 minutes- just to see if I was ok.
I heartily recommend this service and will be upgrading to cover my cars as well.
I get the Road America $20.00 upgrade every year. Never used it until My wife and I broke down on the Newburgh Beacon Bridge at rush hour on I-84 in New York. Had to push the bike through the toll booth. We called the local Harley dealer, explained to them our predicament, and within an hour, they came to get us. I now consider Road America membership to be an important part of getting my bike ready for riding season.
The problem I have with HOG towing is the $45 yearly HOG membership renewal fee. With my Progressive insurance renewal, towing and trip interruption was an big additional $10 a year.

I have AAA in SoCal. Motorcycle towing is NOT part of the basic AAA coverage. You have to pay for it. I think it's called AAA Premiere service and/or is their R/V coverage package. (If you call to enquire, they can tell you.) The M/C towing package I have is good for 200 miles. Full coverage for me (including my truck/bikes) is about $160/year. They actually cover YOU, versus your vehicles, so whatever car/truck or bike (if you buy the coverage) you're driving is covered.
I have used AAA once for my bike. Battery failed. I was out in the boonies on a holiday weekend. It took them a while (almost 3 hours), but they found me (no real landmarks), picked me up, and took me and my bike home 70 miles. It cost me nothing.

Have you considered the HOG Life membership. You never need to worry about the Annual Membership fee, and all of the Membership stuff just comes every year. If your a member for just 10 years, you would have paid for a life membership. I bought it when HOG first offered it. It was well worth the money.

My understanding is even if you're a life member, you still need to upgrade the membership fee each year. Is this correct?
