Default NEED HELP....Rinehart True Dual Issue

Well Gents,

I have been in the process of putting together my new exhaust for my 08 RKC and got hung up on the last step. While installing the front O2 Sensor, I came to the conclusion that something is wrong with the threads on the O2 port on the front header pipe. How did I come to this conclusion? Well, the O2 sensor got stuck about halfway through and I broke it trying to get it out.

Well I figure that the Harley dealer has a couple of O2 sensors hanging around, so I'm not worried about that, what I am concerned about is an overabundance of slag on the threads on the port. I tried getting in there with a pick and was able to get some of it off, but I'm going to need something else. The rear O2 sensor went in without an issue. I'm just disappointed with the front one. I have a dyno appointment on Tuesday and I took leave to do this, so I'd hate to cancel it.

Any ideas??

Thanks again guys!! You rock!!

Dave

find a tap of the right size, and run it in to clean the threads.

Well,

Looks like patience paid off. I just spent the last hour and a half going over every thread in this thing with my pick set. I managed to clean it out enough to run the now messed up O2 sensor in. I did this about four or five times and now it goes in without an issue at all.

Now all I need to do is get another O2 sensor from the dealer tomorrow and I'm back in business.

It depends on how loud you want the bike. I personally like my Rineharts with the standard baffles. 104 dB with my 110 motor.

I dont know if its that I am used to my CVO Deuce and the SE-95 w/V&H Big Radius pipes with Thunder Monster baffles in them or what, but my Streetglide w/Rinehart TD's did sound just a bit on the quiet side. Not that I wanted it to be all that loud....I do like to hear the radio and all, but I also like the music a 45* v-twin makes. I know Rinehart sells a larger baffle....calling it their racing baffle or something, but I assumed they would just be too loud with them in. Now YOU got me thinking about the Big City Thunder baffles.

So whats the deal.....do you totally remove the Rinehart baffles to install the BCT baffles or what?
How much louder are they with the BCT's in?
Can you still hear the radio with no problem?
Do you think the Rinehart racing baffles are louder than the BCT ones?
If I do install a set of BCT baffles, I wonder if it would mess up the F/A ratio and the time my tech spent with the bike on the dyno?

Go to an auto parts store and get a thread chaser. It's 18 X 1.5 mm. Lisle makes one, P/N 12230. I found it locally for $6.50.

And if 18 X 1.5 is not the correct size....just pull the other o2 sensor back out and match up the thread pitch and size with a chaser that way. You could apply a small dab of Anti-Seize to the threads. I have always dont that in automotive applications.....and I am sure it will be the same on a MC engine. Unless there is some sort of problem with the o2 not grounding because of the compound? I would double check the manual first.

18.5 X 1.5 is the right size, I had the same problem with mine, which is why I know.

Anti-seize is a good idea, but just remember that it will smoke a bit once the bike heats up. I thought at first I had a wire up against the pipe and stated freaking.
