My 08 was one of those that didn't come with the Engine Idle Temperature Management System installed. While I was in getting the Fuel Filter recall taken care of I asked the dealer to the flash upgrade for the EITMS.
However, when I got home I tried to perform the procedure to enable and disable the option and could not get it to work. Has anyone else had this procedure done? Does the flash just enable the EITMS permanently? Should I be able to enable and disable it as advertised after the flash?
Might be my imagination, but the bike does seem to run a little better, not that it ran bad before, just better. Maybe the flash also changed the fuel mix?
Just had mine done yesterday. The flash only puts the bike in heat managment mode you cannot use the throttle to put bike in heat mode. I inquired as to the cost to upgrade to the new ecm was told it was about 300 +-. I was hoping the moco would upgrade our ecm's or at leat give a vey good deal on it. If go out for a run let it idle for a little while when you return it will soon go into heat mode. You can hear it slightly.
early 08s require the download to enable and disable (1 time free either direction). the later 08s can be enabled and disabled by the owner. Note - the owner cannot "activate" it at will - the ecm does that when conditions are right.
I had exactly the same scenario (fuel filter shell and EITMS flash at the same time) and the same result (couldn't see that the cruise control light flashed either red or green per the instruction sheet when I tried to enable or disable EITMS).
