Email sent out to Bagger Brace, was curious if it will fit my 99 Road Glide. Thanks for the great info in this thread. I do have the Stabo kit to install on my bike. That's slated for over the winter.
I have an '07 Road Glide with 21,000 miles and I don't think I have ever experienced this wobble. I scrape the right floor board and kickstand from time to time, while not a full time hard core aggressive driver I do push it. I have had my previous (05) and current (07) RG on the Road America track. While pushing either bike until something started to drag the bikes both felt stable and in control.
The bowtie isn't meant to take a lot of verticle loading. I guess I could do the the calcs but I already know that a static load of the bikes weight is enough to take the bowtie into yield if the point load is applied to the center of it. I've seen a couple at the HD service dept. And a buddy (structural engineer) acually bent his bowtie while attempting to lift it. He was using a atv/motorcyle jack.
I wanted a center stand to use when I'm working on the bike and after looking at what is on the market I decided I really like the two torque arms on Harleys center stand. So that's what I installed. The problem now is that any stabilizer that has to use the swing arm bracket will not work.
I just learned that a number of bikes that had this problem also had compressed rubber swing arm bushings. Over time the rubber took a set. When fully unloaded end play in the swingarm was noted. End play was eliminated when the bushings were replaced. Bushing failure (compression) was noted with as little 20K miles.
The problem also went away when different bushing material was used. Sta-Bo uses Delrin for the bushing. It offers greater resistance to compression than rubber. I also remember reading that the MoCo changed the bushing material but I don't remember when and I can't find the article.
Perhaps the stabilizer masks the real problem, failed swingarm bushings.
1) Is the ride str8 the same thing as the Bagger brace?
2) will running sta-bo bushings or the glide-pro bushing kit in addition to the ridestr8/bagger brace be counterproductive?
Ron says he is working on a fix so the bagger brace CAN be used with the HD center stand. This is what I am waiting for.
Hopefully he will make it so it can be used with the wheeldock center stand.
I have a HD center stand in the corner of my garage. One of those items I bought and had to discard. Wheeldock works.
