This just started yesterday. When I start the bike, the check engine light comes on for a few seconds and goes off. Sometimes it revs to 2k and comes back to normal. It feels like the engine is skipping. I'm going to try plug wires, the easy stuff first. Any suggestions? Its only 1 month out of warranty, ain't it always the way.
Do you have any mods or is it stock ? I assume bike is cold when this happens. Have you let it warm up and if so, does it still run the same? More info, please.
Yes, this happens when its cold, and when its warmed up, it almost feels like it will stall, but it doesn't. Even decelerating, it feels rough. I have slip on mufflers, originally thunderheaders, now stock. I did not retune after changing back to the stock mufflers, as it was running well for over 1000 miles. I have 14k miles on the bike.
if the engine light resets itself after a couple of seconds my guess is it will be a misfire code. Probably plug or wire, something ignition is starting to break down. When was the last tuneup?
I had the 10K service done at the dealer. I changed the plugs myself 1000 miles ago, but never tuned up. I'll try the plug wires tomorrow. I bet the ignition coil is pretty well hidden.
Just changed the plug wires and the same problem occurs. The check engine light comes on for a few seconds and then turns off. The engine runs rough. Is there a way to get the code without going to the dealer?
