I use HD Syn 3 in all three holes. Why should I not do this? When you say primary, I assume you mean primary chaincase, right? Not trying to be thick but my last bike was shaft driven and I want to be sure.
Syn3 is an average synthetic oil at an exorbitant price, but although HD okays using it in the tranny I wouldn't do it. Gearboxes should run gear oil, IMO, and an 85w140 works best in my '07. Pick your choice from among quality synthetic brands.
OTOH Syn3 works well in the primary, but you don't need a $10 (or whatever) oil in that location, as I mentioned in an earlier reply. A $3 20w50 fossil engine oil like Castrol GTX works as well.
In the engine there are better solutions for the price, IMO. Syn3 won't inflict premature wear on your engine and without price being a variable is well-suited for the primary, but I wouldn't run it in the tranny.

Thanks for the response. I will be making some different choices at my next oil change.
