That's kind of surprising about Jamie. I had nothing but great things to say about him when I bought my PCIII. His service was A-1. The canned map he loaded made my bike run like it never had before. Not only that but I took my first real road trip with the PCIII last weekend and my gas mileage has gone up about 10%. It may not be tuned to DynoJet perfection but I'm thrilled with the way my bike performs. Sounds like you've got a map problem. I'd keep trying with Jamie before I'd drop $275 on a DynoJet tuning. If he can help you work out the mapping problem, that $275 will go a long way toward something else.
Jamie gets hundreds of emails per day and can't answer all of them. The best way to get in touch with him is to call, and when you do you should have your problem addressed.
I disagree with some here that a dyno tune is necessary in your case or even a minority of Fuel Moto customers. His "canned" maps were created on a bike like yours and should perform optimally. Why yours is detonating is a mystery, but since ignition timing adjustments can usually fix this malady it would a matter of working with Jamie on it.
Give him a call and talk it over. It is rare to hear a story of problems with him, as he has a stellar reputation for taking care of his customers.
Couple of things - did you go to the powercommander website and look for a map that matches your configuration there? Most likely they have it, and it may be an improvement over the fuel moto map. Maybe not, but it's worth a shot. Support at power commander tech support is stellar as well, and also worth a try.
Lastly, a dyno run would solve your problems, but ask around to and find someone good in your area. I know more than a few people who poured $300.00 down the drain at an inexperienced dyno shop - and unfortunately most Harley dealerships fall under that category...
Been runing a map from Jammie for almost 2 years now, zero problems. As mentioned one of the good guys in the business. Yes you have too call, email is no good to get ahold of him. When you put on the PCIII did you set the Throttle posistion? If not, that could cause all kinds of problems.
You need to spend the money and have it dyno tuned. I had a similiar experience with a PCIII I bought for my new v&h true duals. The bike had run fine for 45k miles with the moco stage1 and stage2. I could never get it to run right with the PCIII with or without the duals installed so I removed the PCIII and duals until I can afford a tuner.
recently purchased a pcIII from fuel moto for my 2002 FLHRI 22K miles bigbored 95" SE slipons and Stage 1 filter. So here goes! Jamie at fuel moto sent the unit with the map in it and ever since i installed it i have been pullling my hair out trying to figure out what the hell is the problem. before i installed the pcIII i had noticed a rattle or ping from the cylinders. i have only had this bike for about 3K miles. and has always had a minor ping but after a hot day with the wife on the back noticed it was worse. took it to the stealer and they said i needed a fuel managemet system, why after the bike has 22K miles it all of a sudden needs this system is beyond my knowlege.. the say it is hurting the motor to continue running it like this. All mods have been done since the bike was new thought. but the stealer says it was running lean in all throttle positions and that i had to keep rpms above 1800. after pcIII install bike runs much richer but has a studder or popping around 2500 -3000 rpms. i have been playing phone tag with jamie from fuelmoto. and trying different maps. my problem is IM CHEAP! and i cant really justify taking it to the stealer for a $275 Dyno run. any ideas what could be causing the studder. also my plugs are kinda black says rich to me, but could be wrong. have read alot on this forum and trust your experiences. thanks in advance.
