I do the ENGINE every 5K and the Primary & Trans every 10K - Using a Good SYN..
yeah, what he said. its easier to do the primary and the tranny every other engine oil change than it is to do one at 5k, the other at 10k and then the other at 20k.....
I follow manufacturer's recommendations in the manual. I have been doing this for over forty years on all my vehicles, including five Harleys. I just did the 5k on my FLHRS and only changed the engine oil and filter. Always works for me.
If you are paranoid or like overkill or it just makes you feel good, change 'em all. It won't hurt anything (unless you strip a thread).
After riding for many years I have gotten in the habit of changing all three every spring. I pretty much ride all year round so somtimes in late summer I do an extra oil change.
Trans usually looks clean but boy does that primary get dirty, I would do it before 10k.
Like everyone else says , change every five days (what doe the manufacturer know anyhow?)
Me? I tend to follow.......the 5/10/15 K rule (give or take a K)
