I've run my iPod with the lighter outlet - no issues. When I bought the bike I had an additional outlet installed for heated clothing, etc. Its on the right side panel just in front of the side bag. I've never used it and now wish I hadn't bothered.

I run my GPS and have charged my phone with no issues. Well maybe one, I can't go full lock to the left without the gps plug touching the tank. I can go 99% and could force the other 1% if I had to.

I think HD wants you to stay off of it just to keep from drawing on the battery.

Running small electronic devices like IPODs and GPS units will not do anything on the draw. Heated gear on the other hand, because of the voltage surges can and will definatly draw more then 15amps on start. I have a direct plug with a 20amp inline fuse for off the battery, and with gloves and a jaket liner run sustainded anywhere between 9 and 11 amps.

I also have run my GPS (Garmin 260) with no issues on the EG cig lighter. And, as has already been said, I couldn't go full lock to the left without the GPS power plug hitting the tank.

Went by the dealer and picked up one of the Supplemental 12v Power Point assemblies. As the descriptions says --

"Easy to install power point allows an additional 12 volt power source for electrical accessories powered by a cigarette lighter type socket. Features a water-resistant cover with laser-etched Bar & Shield logo."

This also offered the advantage of putting the GPS power adapter down near my leg because the extra cig type socket (adapter) mounts in the side cover. Leg shields some of the rain. Have run a few thousand miles this way in lots of rain with no problems at all.

What did you have to pay for that and did you install yourself?

Sorry to take so long responding -- traveling and not on the system much. I paid $19.75 (Alaska prices!) and installed it myself. You do need to drill a 3/4 inch (if I remember correctly) hole in the side cover for the outlet. Installation instructions are very clear. The EG comes with an adapter pre-wired to connect to the harness and the outlet is controlled by the accessory switch. Not sure what you're riding, but I'd just double check your bike and make sure it's pre-wired and fits the harness.
