I am curious how much if any damage there is to a FLHX in a zero speed drop. With out any bag guards do the bags take any damage or scratches? Any other damage?
As the bike lays over it should come to rest on the front engine guard and probably the rear edge of the saddlebag. If it goes over easy enough there may not be any damage depending on the surface it falls on. You may end up with a paint scrape on the bottom edge of the bag.
I was very concerned about the same thing. I have dropped every bike I have owned since 1978. (It's always something) I have a new 09 Street Glide and replaced the OEM bag supports with HD part# 49282-09. They are the OEM bag support on the Road King. Although it alters the look of the SG I have a little more peace of mind. It was an easy mod. About an hour. If anyone need the OEM take offs HD part# 90881-09 PM me. They are brand new.
Those bikes without the front bag guards really look nice but yes something is gonna get messed up. With the front bag guards at least the guards and the front bar may get scratched a little under them on the radius but once you screw up the bags its all big money. I actually went down to just the front guards on my glide classic instead of the wrap around guards. It looks better to me and i still have a guard for the bags.

If all you guys are going to do is guess, why reply? This guy has asked a legitimate question and he should get a legitimate answer.
I have dropped my Eglide Classic ('95 model) at zero speed and never scratched either crash bar on either side. The bike will rest on the floorboards and not touch anything else. Haven't managed to drop my Streeter yet but with a buddies help I laid it over on both sides (in the garage) and the result was the same - no damage. This does'nt mean that your bike won't go over farther under different circumstances - just that if it does go over, say like at a stop where you lose your footing, you'll probably luck out with no damage.

I bought my 08 SG used and the person who had it before me had dropped it. The damage was some scratches and scuffing on the engine guard, the bottom of the bags where slightly scratched and the latch on the bag was scratched. Also a little scuff on the fairing by the mirror. It must have been a zero speed drop because the damage was very little and most people didn't even notice unless I pointed it out.
Unfortunately , I was hit by a car when it ran a red light and really f'ed up the bike. The good news is all the damage from the drop were replaced and it looks like a brand new bike now
Dropped my Ultra on a hard surface, and there is a small scratch on the bottom of the engine guard (not noticeable) and no scratches on the bag guards. If the bags hit, there will be cosmetic damage. Bag guards are worth the money!
I replaced the SG supports with guards on my 09 SG as well. Not for protection, but to be able to hang the guard pouches. As for damage with/without, it really depends on the surface you drop on...perfectly flat, zero speed, slow drop...you'll mrk the engine guard and bottom of the foot board. Hard/fast fall, even at zero speed or on an uneven surface...probably damage to the bags even with the guards.
