Coming from the state of Washington where splitting lanes is not legal (it should be) and where the act of simply passing is considered illegal by most cage drivers California's lane splitting comes as a relief. It's one of the few redeeming qualities about CA. that make traveling there bearable. They actually have drivers that move over to let you get by. Split lanes with baggers every time I'm down there but usually only when traffic is stopped or almost stopped. If I was ever to live there traveling by motorcycle would be my first choice for getting around 'cause you're never "stuck" in traffic. I recommend checking out the state laws before doing this anywhere else.

I split lanes regularly on my Ultra. Sometimes its a little tight, just adds to the rush

It's legal in Michigan if you do it while riding in the nude with a cigar in you mouth.

I had a metric tourer and would split traffic, but only if I had the room and that was if I was at the back of the line at a stop light. While traffic is moving, forget it in the Bay Area traffic.

I am one who always splits lanes. Freeways here in SoCal are the worst. I cruise at a safe speed when splitting, I always keep my lights on high beam when splitting, it makes you more visable, considering I have a 100W high beam. Most people here are use to having bikes split and will give you room, I just dont force the issue.

My favoriate thing to do in the city, is cruise in between the cars at the red lights, and try to time the light so it turns green and you can blast between the last two cars, my bike is very load and it scars the Sh_t out of them.....

I lane split in San Diego all the time, rev your motor and let 'em know you're there,

I split lanes at the border crossing in Tijuana coming back from Rosarito the other week and that was hell. Vendors and all kinds of **** in the split. Never again in TJ.

Default Lane Splitting with Road King

I split lanes with my Road King too, gets a bit tricky with uneven pavement.

Make some noise and most people clear out.

I do it every day on my Street Glide. Never had a problem. Just ride safe and within your ability.
