Paul Yaffe makes a pretty cool turn signal kit which is a dingle LED mounted in the fairing windshield strip. You can clip the running light wire and only the blinker will be seen when you set it to blink. Other than that, the blinker is almost invisible. I applied it to my RG and got rid of the Shrek running lights. I will add a picture later today.
Note the turn signal eliminator piece that goes where the turn signal used to be. It holds the fairing on now.
In the second picture you can see the difference between the running light (on the left of the bike) and the blinker on (on the right side of the bike).

baggerbrian is only the second person I have ever heard refer to Harleys as circus wagons. A person on one of our European motorcycle tours selected BMWs over Harleys, but owned Harleys back in the states. I never did get around to asking him why he referred to Harleys that way. Maybe baggerbrian can explain it to me. I, personally, like Harleys.
@Spike - thanks for the info, I can see them now. Trick! I Like them.
@Eastern SP - I'll look that up for the front.
@CryBaby - I have an FLHX. Remember the old circus wagons with the lights and flags and calliope? IMHO, anything with too many add ons turns into a cicus wagon... like the "Fast and the Furious" import crowd with the neon, lights wings and crap hanging on a econo-box.
Here is the solution, Russ Wernimont Designs LED cat-eye tail light and license plate mount. It has integrated Amber LED turn signals, pulses when the brakes are first applied and really bright!
Remove the outer fairing and trace the signal light wires back from the lights to the connectors in front of the speakers. For the right light, the running light wire is blue or brn, doesn't specify for the FLHT bikes..On the left side it is violet or brn, doesn't specify. If you were riding a Road King it would be the blue wire that needed to be disconnected on both lights. But as stated in previous posts, you should be able to determine easily with a test light.
Another option is to determine which of the 2 contacts on the bottom of the bulb is the run filament and file it off with a small file, might work.

Those lights are REQUIRED by every state in the US by federal DOT law. Removing them will lead to nothing but added harassment by LEO and the danger of you getting hit by a cager.
Then you will come on this forum and lament.
You may or may not have a state inspection requirement but there are laws requiring them to be there if you operate on any public road.
I wonder how the Buell blast got away without having running lights on the front signals.
