Default Front run/signal light delete????

This is on an '09 Electra Glide Standard........

I want to get rid of the running lights on the front turn signals. I just don't like the whole orange thing constantly on. I know I can install smoked or clear lenses with a white bulb, but I'd rather not go that route. What I want to do is get rid of the running lights, install the smoked lenses, and a white/orange bulb. I just don't want the running lights constantly on. Would it be possible to just install a single filament bulb and be done with it? I feel it can't be that easy, especially with the kind of luck I have. I was also thinking I could just purchase the bulb buckets for the rear (single filament bulbs) and just install them on the front, but I don't know if there would be any wiring issues.

Has anyone done this? Maybe there is an easier way to go about this, that I don't know about.

TIA

Since you cannot see the orange lights when you are riding anyway, just leave them alone. It's a good safety feature.

You should be able to trace the wires down and unplug the one that is for the running light. I do know that on years before 07 you can take the front light and put it on the rear and hook up the 3 rd wire in the tail light and you will have running lights for the back. Just change the lens to red. You may be able to swap front for the back and vise versus to make the front not have running lights that way. Like I said the 07 and up may be differrent from 06 and earlier. Give it a shot. The rear you will have to take tail light and bar off to access the wires and bolts that hold it on. Good Luck

Do you have vehicle inspections in your state?
Cagers don't see us now with the lights you have, and you want to remove more lights? Just unplug it, but me, I look for as many lights as I can get and make them the brightest suckers you got too

Now would be a good time to buy the HD Service Manual. At the back of it are wiring diagrams showing how the turn signals are wired.

If it's like my '04, there are seperate wiring circuits and color-coded wires for the run and turn signal functions, with the run light circuit being blue. You could remove the blue wires from their connectors inside the fairing or at the TSSM.

I wouldn't do it since the more light the better, including the contrast--but it's your bike do what you want.

Could also do away with the turn signals altogether and use the "blinkerspot" from biketronics that turns your passing lamps into blinkers but then you'd need amber passing lamps

just my two cents, but have you considered probing the contacts, or the wires themselves, you've gotta have two hots and one ground for it to work, right? if it's a dual element bulb, one element "run/park " light will be run off one wire, and the turn will operate off a different wire to feed the circuit. if you really wanna do away with the running lights, then you can cut, or unplug the wire that feeds your running light. all it takes is a test light, very cheap and easy to find. a 12 volt test light is all ya need. hope this helps. just make sure that the front elements have a dual element bulb.

If you eliminate the turn signals I believe you will be looking at B1121 & B1122 DTC ("right & left turn signal fault") codes constantly popping up. If you think the lights are annoying, how bad would it be to constantly be clearing codes to shut off the blinking engine light that would be right in your face?

You can take the bulb out, use a tester to find out which probe on the bottom of the bulb is for the running light, grind it down flat, put a small piece of black tape over the remaining probe, and put it back in. No running light and the blinker works just like always. That's what I did and it works great. If you ever want the running light back, just buy a new bulb.
