Default dang! stripped screw

need your help/ideas! installed new set of handlebars on my road glide today and took off the the outer fairing so i could pull the throttle wiring thru. when i put the fairing back on i stripped out the lower right hand screw. did not over tighten by any means. seems like the plastic may have already been partially damaged. my electra glide had inserts in the outer fairing and machine screw held in on. you would have to try real hard to strip those out. on the road glide, simple pointed screws go into plain plastic on the outer fairing. real cheesey. any ideas on how to repair? tap out to next size? use original screw and epoxy in? need your ideas please!! (by the way, install the new heritage bars and they are great on the new road glides!)

thanks

epoxy stick, not unlike the stuff that idiot Billy Mays hawks on TV (damn but I hate that guy's rantings). nead a little and suff that hole full then let it sit over night. it will harden within minutes but overnight is better. also buy a fresh stick as they do age and won't harden fully. available at most any hardware or automotive store. JB weld is better but it will ooze out unless you set the fairing on it's nose somehow. drill out to the right diameter and try that original screw again. I'd try this before going to a larger screw. if it doesn't hold you're no worse off and can still try a larger screw. that's my two cents worth.

I would epoxy up the hole, redrill the hole, and then use the original screw. But thats just me.

I'd use epoxy to fill the hole, too, like the others said. But use a marine epoxy (available at the marina or boat dealer) -- it's much tougher and made specifically for fiberglass.

Check to make sure you used the two long screws in the bottom holes. I had the exact same thing happen to me. the two screws on the bottom of the fairing are slightly longer than the others. When you find the two longest screws put them in and you will be fine.

Hey I'am glad I could help. I know when it happened to me on my week old bike I felt sick. It was just by fluke that I figured it out. Those screws couldn't be much more than 1/4 inch longer, it almost seems like some sort of sick joke from the moco don't it!!
