Really still don't know the best way. I read one article that said to soft tie and ratchet around the front forks near where the front fender mounts and then around the top of the back tire. This leaves the suspension un-compressed. Any one see any problems with this approach? i.e. I'm trailoring from NC to Sturgis and don't want any problems. Let me know, thanks.

I find it interesting when someone is so fast to Flame someone for using a trailer. I do agree its best to ride when ever possible. Last time I checked we still do live in a free state ?? For those that are fast to "Flame" - the day just may come that for a "genuine" reason, you can Not ride as long as you once could or you would like to - So the choice may be to trailer or Not ride at all - I ride 99% of the time.... I have and will continue to trailer if needed - its that or ride alone. I too see the Customs show up at events, roll them off a trailer - ride/look cool - back on the trailer then home... But how does the really affect me / and do I really care ??
Agreed 110% - Now that I am older I can't ride as long as I used to so trailoring is the key - maybe someone wants to open their mouth about getting old too???

Trailering is a fact of life for some. I'm military and am forced to pack up and move the whole family every 3 years. Two cars, three kids, wife, 2 dogs, and everything we have.

It's either trailer it or sell it.

Some people have reasons.[sm=patriot.gif]

An EG is tied down pretty easily with the soft strap around the frame just above the crash bars. I snug down until the front end feels tight and won't bounce out of the tie down. I just snug the ones around the rear floor boards. And yes I have found a need to occaisionally trailer. I have also rode across the US east coast to west. There are cicumstances that arise that make trailering neccesary. The only person I have to satisfy is myself and occaisionaly my wife.

People with legitimate reasons you know who you are. Others just need to pour syrup on their ankles to keep the ants off their candy A$$es! You guys getting up in years or when moving the whole herd is understandable. But when someone in the prime of life, healthy, and traveling with buddies wants to trailer JUST because they dont want to ride that far or is worried about a little rain that is just pathetic!

Thanks for the input everyone. Just one more week and I'll be headed to Daytona with the family and bikes.

2005UltraNC, That is exactly the way I tie mine down. 2 straps on each front fork at the point where the fender is attached to the fork. 2 straps pulling forward into the wheel chock and 2 straps out to either side to steady the bike, although with the front wheel in the chock the bike goes nowhere. I use the MCK2 MC Tie Down System http://www.sportstrailers.com/mck1-2.htm inside a Classic enclosed trailer. With a bagger its hard to put straps on the rear, but with the unit I use above, the wheels are captive so all I do is run a strap from one side thru the rear wheel to the other side and tie it off and a strap from each passenger footboard bracket to the MCK2.

Once upon a time I used to be able to ride 24/7and party all nite. Now I can't spend as much time in the saddle as I used to but its not from lack of desire!!! I am at a stage in my life that I can afford a few luxuries/creature comforts that allow me to continue to enjoy my love of riding a motorcycle. I don't need anyone's approval or blessing if I choose to trailer my ride. I don't give a ratsass what you think, I do for me and that's all that matters. I live by what is written below.
