OK a little off the windshield subject but still about bug guts. What do you all use to clean them off when they have the mis fortune of hitting the motor and bake into the black wrinkle finish. Seems hard to remove without leaving something behind ?
Eventually they burn black and blend in if you have the black and chrome engine.

In 03 I got into the grasshopper (locust) hoards in Alberta and Montana. They would get wedged in the fins and smeared on the exhaust. They gave off an aroma of fresh baked nut bread and it was difficult not to pry one out and give it a taste.

On a more serious note:

Pry out the big chunks then wait til you are back home and use some of the S100 products to clean the engine. You can use a nylon scrubber on the chrome exhaust and NeverDull to polish. The exhaust should be cool to touch of course.

Carmell,

That's a good question! What I use is some Simple Green and a nylon brush. Use it when the engine is cool enough for you to touch without burning you hand! Pre-wet the affected area, then a few squirts of Simple Green and scrub with the brush. Then, rinse immediately! Repeat if needed. Other folks may have different ways of doing it. Personally, I stopped buying S100 a long time ago. And, SG worked better!

My .02!

I use the pre-moistened towels like from Armor All seem to work great for me and fit well in the hard bag

I usually just let the thunder storm I always hit when I am on the road clean it.

Windshield cleaning on the road?
Nope -- -Just wait till you can wash'em off at home - - each bug splat represents some sort of story from the ride..cheaper than buying a tee shirt!
That doesn't work very well when it looks like this on the first day of a 14 day trip [8D]

I just use the squeeji and fluid provided by the gas stations when I stop for gas.

I used to to that until I watched a friend of mine put big scratches on his windshield... It scratched the windshield as he pulled the squeeje across it... I haven't used one since... Only towels for me...
