Default Finally experienced the "wobble"

The ride to work on Ft. Eustis (Mulberry Island Rd) has a number of "frost heaves' that go from one side of the road to the other. I usually weave myself around them when I can see them and actually use them to practice my 'hi-speed obstacle avoidance" technique. When I weave in between them I have finally experience the rear end wobble that everyone talks about. As I often accelerate as I whip the bike thru the twisties as you call them. It is an interesting experience to say the least. Maybe Santa will bring me one of those "braces" one for Xmas!

Check this thread, but order before Nov 15th!

I haven't experienced the wobble ('02 RK). But am considering getting a stabilizer so that I never will...

I ride hard, and transition HARD... maybe it has wobbled but I haven't noticed?

I am actually the maker of this Touring Stabilizer. I guarantee it will be the best $175 you spend on your bike! It really shines in the curves and when riding two-up. Makes the back-end feel totally tight and more secure. Thanks for the link!

I have owned my 2008 Street Glide for a little over a year now. It is my first touring bike, and I love it. So anyhow I am reading quite a bit about this issue of wobble in moderate to high speed sweeping turns. I also read about a general feeling of a loose rear end....sort of like the rear tire is going down....or the feeling like the rear tire is following a crack in the road that aint there.
Ok....so I been riding my new bike for a while, and after the honeymoon was over, and we actually started getting to know each other much better I did feel the looseness in the rear. Yes....it is there for sure.....just like I read....at speeds around 55-75 the rear end feels weird sometimes. Almost like a wagging tail feeling. Ok....so no big deal I figured I can deal with it for now, until I get around to buying a True Track or something. Move ahead about 9-10 months and one fine morning me and my bros are heading down the highway to a poker run. We were pushing the bikes....not actually flogging them, but we were clipping along at about 85MPH. So I come over this overpass with a downgrade and a sweeping right hand bend in the road. I get off the gas a bit, and drop it down into fifth gear......when all of the sudden I go over a small depression in the road just a bit past the apex of the turn. The bike started to wobble, or oscillate from the rear end all the way into the handle bars. Now I am starting to get a bit worried....my bike is taking up more and more room, and I was already in the left tire track of the fast lane with a Jersey Barrier three feet to my left, and cage traffic to my right...so I didnt have much room to mess around with. Funny thing was that it wasn't going away....I knew exactly what was going on and I just wanted it to stop, but I didnt want to make any drastic corrections or do any real braking. It finally subsided and stopped as my speed came down to around 60MPH. So that was what everyone was talking about....the infamous "wobble". It could have been a very bad day if my GF was on the back. Anyhow....needless to say I ordered a TWR Missing Link the next day. It arrived in about three days and I installed it right away. Took the SG back over the same piece of road at the same speed and higher about 15 times, and could not duplicate the wobble. Gone also was the "wagging" feeling...like the rear was going flat. The SG actually feels like a different bike now. Rock solid no matter how hard I push on it (within reason), I can actually "play" with it now where before I had to keep a heads up. The link is needed on the pre 09' touring platforms, and if you think you can live with that loose feeling, or you just never felt the hard wobble in a turn yet.....you will, and when you do you will wish you would have installed one a few weeks ago. So why not save yourself some time and pick one and buy it now. You may just save more than time....it could be your a$$ your saving.

I've never had any issues with wobble or so I thought. I bought the Bagger Brace just because I had read about all the positive experiences people have had. It's the best $300 I've spent on my bike. It tracks through the curves like it's on rails and is much more stable at freeway speeds. I think you'd be happy with most of the stabilizers but keep in mind as with most things you get what you pay for.

I never felt the wobble either, but I invested in the TWR link and felt the ride improvement right away. Handled much better on the highway, winds, bumps.
